How can it be stagnant and immobile when we've played without a striker and the midfielders are the reason we won the league a cup and got to the C/L final, finishing top scorers ? Along with our defenders, of course.

Not for the two pennies but Berna is also a slow player so I don't really understand, he's not the reason why the midfield will be mobile, Rodri should be replaced then.
 
To be honest, if Bernardo goes I am not fussed. We are not talking about City 20 years ago when we might have sold Bernardo and brought in Robbie Savage. He could be part of a deal to bring in Felix who would be an immense signing and perhaps Bernardo leaving means more opportunities for Palmer or someone which is never a bad thing.
 
Allowing Bernie to leave is unthinkable: encouraging him to do so would be criminal. We can't prove that we would not have won any particular title without him but I think there is a strong suggestion that he was mighty important in our winning this season's. It's a very comfortable fit that he didn't play in the derby at OT or the draw with WBA at our place which so angered Pep, but then he did play in 14 of the next 15 PL matches which we won (WHU at home was the only one he missed and we squeezed home in that one) before being absent for the derby at home which ended our winning run. Now it's obviously ridiculous to argue that 15 consecutive wins was solely down to Bernie but it seems to me he must have played a significant role, and the evidence of my eyes is that his energy and ability to keep the ball were important in the way we ground down the opposition and came out on top in some pretty close encounters

That sounds to me like it would be a downgrade with a risk based on Felix/Palmer's potential, which isn't guaranteed by any means that they'd even reach the level of Bernie, I think we'd be crazy to sell him unless he wants it, like many have said, he's an ideal pep player & still potentially has his best years ahead of him

I dont think there were many times when Fernandinho started ahead of Rodri that weren't rotation to rest Rodri.

61 games this season. Rodri started 46. That's just 2 less than Ederson. Only Dias played more minutes than him of outfield players, so the idea Pep doesn't trust him is laughable.

Of the 15 games he didn't start there were probably 4 he would have wanted to start - the Carabao Cup semi vs. United, The Carabao final, the PSG second leg and the CL final. I

The rest were early cup games, the 6th CL game and a few games rested during Christmas and the run up to the CL final.

I did say on the night of the game that if he doesn't get everything he needs from the DM role than we might need to buy someone else, but the thing a lot of people won't really want to admit is that if we need another defensive midfielder and one had to go, it would be Fernandinho.

He was also not trusted to start the CL final and only Mendy, Ake and Aguero played fewer league minutes for the club this season, and we can only assume he'll play even less at 36 then he did at 35.

But no one wants to get rid of Fern, because we love him, because he's important off the pitch so we'll have those 2 next year and maybe resolve the position fully in 2022.

Regardless no manager is going to be interested in getting rid of the midfielder he played more than any other, so this seems like another point where you and Guardiola have completely opposite assessments of a player.
 
I absolutely adore Bernardo, but I do feel he gets an easier ride than a lot of players in this squad.

He's had one truly world class season where he was unbelievable and the rest of his time here has been hot and cold. He's a fan favourite and I completely get why, but I think he's been way more streaky as a player during his time here than a lot of players that get a regular flogging on this forum.

The biggest question mark with him is his role in this team:
  • His best performances have come in the RCM role, but he's not going to drop KDB long term, even if there are arguments that we're more balanced as a team.
  • His level of goal contributions as a forward isn't high enough for him to be more of an effective RW than someone like Mahrez/Foden/Sterling.
  • In the predominant role he's been playing this season, no one can fault his effort, work rate and what he brings to the side in this sense, but my view is an actual box-to-box midfielder (i.e someone in the mould of a Kante/Vidal) would be able to do this job just as well and arguably offer more.
I don't think people are seeing it from Bernardo's POV either - does he want to be a midfield workhorse if that's what his role in this side is going to be limited to? Or does he want to go to a team where he's going to be a star man and play in a position where he can go and shoulder a lot more of the creative burden and really get to show of his quality in this sense?

I don't think the club will be actively getting rid of him and I hope we don't, because he's a big part of the squad and has a part to play, but I can see why it's something that might happen and why it could ultimately benefit Bernardo and even us if we replace him adequately.
 
Anything imminent?? I was hoping for a boom on day one of window opening next week is it? Not happening i guess. I am just a bit anxious about the 9 ( whoever it is ) etc. wish we would announce some contract extensions as well. Stones - maybe?

Yes we won with mfs but you take bernie out of the equation and you will have a different picture .
