Barcelona president Joan Laporta is set to hold a meeting with La Liga chief Javier Tebas this morning as he seeks to find a resolution over Lionel Messi's contract extension.
I think we can expect a decision on this in the coming hours. Personally i i just don't see how they can afford to keep Messi.
I also have a strange feeling this is the case. Hope soMaybe Messi knows they can’t afford him but this will allow him to leave without turning his back on Barca so to speak. Personally I think it over for him at Barca and he will be a City player after the copa tournament finishes. I might be wrong though just a hunch
Yep, of course they willLa Liga will find a way. Losing him would hurt their brand too.
Hence the reason why I did not want him here.
Does not matter who he is, if your not 101 % committed you are not for us.
Just strikes me a guy who has achieved what he has, earnt more money than he will ever need, does not want to enjoy the last couple of seasons playing in a team that would give him immense pleasure and satisfaction ( and that does not have to be MCFC)
Even now, it all seems down to cold hard cash, sad, but very predictable.
Cool. Personally I'd eat my own shit to see him wearing a city shirt but each to their own.
He was a free agent 24 hours ago, yet he is still hedging his bets.
What the excuse this time?
Yeah he does need to make a decision
HimselfFor whose sake?
He had no choice, despite reports, I would think if he did come here it would be on vastly reduced terms, I would imagine despite Barca's financial crisis they would still pay him a kings ransom if he stays.
what i get from all this: messi actually gave barca the go ahead and agreement to the renewal a few weeks ago, theyve had to rush negotiations in the last week or so since they werent making enough progress to sign it before the 30th june deadline, now barca have managed to finish the agreement but ffp regulations is stopping them from getting messis signature and annoucing it, they cant get messi to sign it without 100% knowing whether he will be allowed to play or not, and this is what laporta is sorting out as we speak
whether he manages to find a solution is the question

particularly any sense that they 'had to rush' negotiations when they've known the position for monthsI personally think that is horseshit. As sold by Laporta.
I would agree, and if it's true he wants to stay, so regardless of whether he can , we should stay clear.
How do they explain to other clubs they will simply allow Barcelona to bypass the rules ? Other clubs will not give a shit if Messi isn't playing in the league, they already get a lion's share of the league money.La Liga will find a way. Losing him would hurt their brand too.

But that would have been a waste of 3248 pages in this threadI think the main point is we have to wait and see what happens.
