Almost certainly, Messi will end up renewing for Barca.

This entire Messi-mombo saga is, IMO, Messi exerting maximum pressure on Barca to rid management figures he dislikes, while driving the best possible deal for contract renewal.

Something just doesn’t add up though… if you need to lose €100m from your wage bill and you want to sign Messi to a new contract - why bring in 3 new players…. On the face of it it’s madness. The only explanation I can think of is it is all smoke and mirrors and Barca will be allowed to breach league rules and carry on as before… it’s not like there isn’t precedent. Cheats are always cheats.

they needed to lose at least 300m of there wage bill

Can you imagine the legal shit storm ? They want to cancel a guys contract but 6 months ago wanted to take Messi to court for not honouring his ? You couldn't make this shit up
Some one did make it up and put it on twitter, the home of where made up things go.

Then City Watch can quote it or repost it or whatever and it becomes a fact to some people.

Messi is a money-generating machine.
That doesn't really help their current situation though. He can generate money, sure, but it's pissing in the wind when you take into account their debts and the rules which say they have to cut their wage bill by a couple of hundred million.

Don’t they still owe 200m to clubs they bought players from?

Yes… and if they get rid of those players - releasing them or selling them… don’t they have to settle the outstanding amount in full… so they may have very limited room for manoeuvre. It must be all laughs and giggles in the Barca boardroom just now !

Watching Barcelona Tank is actually becoming better than signing Messi for me.

What a fucking circus. Kick everyone out and illegally cancel contracts of players without their consent. I love the smell of a good lawsuit.
Bob. I agree this is fantastic entertainment for anyone who has become sick over the years of the self entitled hypocrisy which seeps out of this Club. It is a triumph for the crappiest planning imaginable. The successive Presidents and Boards who have set budgets and strategies to reach this point want shooting. There is no way any player will exit a binding contract on terms which disadvantage them and the footballing authorities should be very interested in these developments and at the very least threatening an immediate incoming transfer ban. in any event any reluctance on the authorities part may become overshadowed by legal action from players.

As many on here have said it’s no wonder that Barca cling so desperately to the super league concept. It’s their only way out.

Maybe the players at risk should hire Danny Mills as an adviser. This could get very Messi indeed.

The hypocrisy is staggering but they can’t just cancel contracts. These are fixed term contracts, binding in law and any variation needs the agreement of both parties. Even in cases of serious misconduct - remember Tevez - the contract could not be terminated- and Spanish labour law is much tougher than the UK equivalent - so Barca (or the media) are chatting shit.
Regardless of whether they can or not they are bullying the lad. He's probably getting death threats off the Barca loyalists

It can’t be good for squad harmony that they’re willing to cancel contracts of players and, according to some reports, not even pay them all while they’re bending over backwards to make an offer to Messi. Ridiculous really.
