Nightmare. Sorry to hear that mate.

wow what a fish. Look at the bloody rudder on that. No wonder it gave you a hard time. How would you compare its fighting prowess to a same size Barbel?

It was faster than a barbel and leapt, so a more acrobatic fight. But it probably didn't pull as hard, if that makes sense.

To be honest people rave about barbel fights, and they are thrilling, particularly in shallow water, but having caught a few river carp I'd say they fight harder than barbel pound for pound. Catfish fight harder than both.

I've found a photo of the silvery trout and it's markedly bigger than that one, by the way. give me a minute to downsize it and I'll show you.

Makes perfect sense. It’s how I would describe it too. Trout faster, Barbel more muscular. in my experience, you can ‘horse’ a trout if you get its head up quickly in the fight. Cant do that with a Barbel.

Again I caught it in the Calder but there are some big, I'd say unpassable weirs below where it was. Took a massive plug at the entrance to a canal where the water was almost still, a few days below the original lockdown. I didn't weigh it but it has to be over 5lb, that one.

easily. Its quite slim too - slim pickings over winter. That could well go 7Ib when its in prime condition.
