Sterling and the hate he gets

I’m sorry but I’m really struggling with it was a dive stuff. He didn’t dive. He was running at pace. He was clipped. Now some may say the contact was minimal. It matters not. He was running and twisting at pace. You get clipped you know about it. It knocks you off balance. A dive is an unnatural moment. For instance the penalty against us vs Liverpool. Ruben put his arm on Salah. He felt it and dived. That action was a not natural and that is what I would class as a dive.
I’m really struggling with the need to pin crap on Raheem and fit in with the whoppers who follow England etc and are constantly looking for anything to take a pop at him because he has the audacity to give his bollocks for the English cause. He’s been the main man this tournament for England and it must be difficult for people to accept.

It’s mind boggling really and instead of really looking forward to Sunday I feel I’m defending city/sterling to people and it’s getting boring. Obviously I hope England win Sunday but I really hope Sterling gets the winner.
I 100% agree with you. I watched the game on RTE 2, almost all the replay clips showed the view from in front of goal and the ones from behind the goal started at the point just before he was going down. But there was one and one only clip shown from behind the goal which started as he entered the penalty area which showed Maehle's first attempt to tackle him, it was a trip and Sterling just ran through it, no attempt to go down. at 4.05
I thought this was why the penalty was given and couldn't believe the guff from Hamann etc. but they never showed that slightly longer clip again. Also the review was longer than most of the reviews in the tournament plus the ref. apparently was not advised to look at the pitch screen, which I think suggests the officials were satisfied that it was a penalty. I hate diving, whoever the player is but this imo was not a dive.

Sterling is a brilliant footballer, I'd would go as far as to say he would be the world's best if he could strike a ball cleanly. I'm also astonished the lack of appreciation he gets on here and the seeming willingness to sell him when he was rumoured to be for sale. He's not as easy on the eye as DeBruyne or Mahrez but he's a highly effective footballer.

I do think that dive/fall will bite him on the arse. Himself and Kane will look terrible when the refs are reviewing that match in preparation for Sunday. After the first semi I said it to a mate that the Italian fullback is ripe for conceding that exact peno to Sterling, I can't see that happening now unless he amputates him.

The hate he gets is from the manner in which he left one of the 2 biggest clubs. Like it or not falling out with either of those has consequences. I can't think of a single player that ever left them and went on to be a darling of the public. He also dives/goes down easy as much as any other player in the league. One minute in the PL season he does this. Its hard to like.

Have you read the thread and watched the videos posted of the incident?

IT WASN'T A DIVE!

Maybe if England had played in red shirts v Denmark it would have been ok...the campaign againat Raheem all stemmed from him wanting to leave lfc, their powerful media friends turned him into a hate figure booed by the likes of burnley and west brom fans ...clubs where Joey Barton and Lee Hughes had played.

I remember Norwich supporters booing Raheem too.

We have a history as fans of having fall guys, to the point the hatred becomes appalling, vicious and unnecessary.

Richard Edgehill, Dzeko , Kolarov to name just a few.

If a player is attracting abuse due to lack of respect of the shirt or lack of effort I get it, but abuse because they arn't flavor of the month is a disgrace.
We are a VERY tough fan base on the out of form guys. I’ve been v critical of Mahrez so not being hypocritical

Was a total joke of a penalty, no contact at all, he doesn't get gifted that in a City shirt.
Sterling, Kane and Grealish do dive for fun playing for England and I hope we don't add Kane or Grealish to our squad.

Raheem has been very poor this season for City and I think he has focused too much on the off-field stuff than trying to do well for City.

Although not his fault and I don't blame him, his selection in Champions league final was the reason we lost, primarily because Pep felt he had to shoehorn him into the team.
Hope he improves his form for City but to think he is intentionally playing poor because of his contract situation must be long way off the mark. I'm not his biggest fan, he's a very frustrating player imho and his inability to finish one on one is criminal at times.
His record for us is amazing. I kinda get what you are saying in places but surely worth acknowledging that ?

He is an amazing player, potentially he could be the best in the world if he was able to finish 1 on 1 more frequently and played aggressive attacking football more often. He's at his best when he is raw and eager, running with the ball and attacking players, committing them, if he does that he is a dangerous player. I don't know why he doesn't more often, perhaps it's the coaching but if he upped his conversion rate then he'd register serious numbers. Bare in mind he is not technically gifted striker of a ball this is something he could and should be working on obsessively if he's not already . There is a reason the ladyboy scaled the heights he has

Watching ex-pat United/Liverpool supporting City haters dancing around the pub after a Sterling goal has been one of the most vomit-inducing things for me. I will maybe raise a polite half-smile if fat boy Shaw smashes in the winner on Sunday.

I love this a City player is favourite for 'Player of the tournament' in the European Championships and he still gets shit!

It's nothing new lads, who remembers the crap Keith Curle got at Euro 92'?

Serious numbers? really?

290 Games
96 Goals
51 Assists

the guy is unreal

That was very short lived after he got dragged off in the first game and they put a midfielder in his place after getting torn apart in a unfamiliar right back position.

He played 3 games for England in 3 different positions, CB, Sweeper and RB, and for each game he was taken off very early for defender or an early substitute.

The 0-0 v Denmark he played in at the Euros was seen as a disaster until the next two games. Taylor never gave him another look after 1 bad half, and similar with David White's 1 game where he hit both his chances too close to Zubizarreta. Graham Taylor treated them both badly and then handed 4 point each to Norway and the Netherlands, booth Woods and Seamen being poor and getting more chances.

fantastic memory there mate! Curle was defo misused and made a bit of a scape goat.

I remember being absolutely buzzing in School that a City player was in the England team!

Yeah me too, listened to his first two games on the radio, think Platt scored, obviously Denmark was on telly.

The last time I saw him play he was left back at Maine Road, think it must have been SU. Was gutted he got knocked out the Rumbalows sprint challenge ant Wembley before the televised final.
