BBC ITV and sky full of sympathy and hard luck stories for England this morning, however not a single one have questioned Southgates questionable tactics after going one up and his decision to pick the penalty takers.

Italy were rattled for the first half an hour and we should of gone for the kill but we went the other way and became far too defensive and conservative

The lack of serious game time for foden and grealish should mean a trip to the job centre but we are stuck with him. There can't be many countries who have the best league, a squad of highly rated and paid players that see their national team as underdogs and have such little expectation.

If the man had any decency and was honest about his limitations he should resign tomorrow. Unfortunately the fact we got to even a semi never mind a final makes him very secure.

His pundit mates can't speak highly enough about him. A poor man's Roberto di Matteo
Great point about his pundit mates. But what they say as opposed to what they really think are two different things. It was a victory for Football as opposed to Anti-Football. ( 8 defenders ) Kane summed it up "We tried to hold on to our lead". Bring on the Premiership where we see proper football ... not Gareth Boregate's version of it.

It really was just shit tactics from Southgate after the early goal. We needed to get at them and kill the fucking game off which we would've been capable of, but we sit back and invite Italy back in to the game and they start to dominate. Our back four were excellent all tournament but as an attacking force we were poor. A better manager would have a field day with this squad

this. It looked like big Sam took over after we scored.

it was get rid zero composure and hoof.

we just bypassed midfield

Turned the BBC over to Bargain Hunt when they (the beeb) were going on about how it had "brought the country together".

Your totally missing my point. Imagine you are at work and the most important contract in your companys history is about to be played. The CEO, Chief exec and all the experienced people hide in the office and leave the apprentices to try to secure the deal.
No. Southgate confirmed that he decided who was taking pens. What if 7 apprentices decided to take pens? Chaos.

Totally agree - by half time I knew we were not going to win. He’s managed relative success by being defensively sound and hard to beat, which is fine when you face Scotland, Czech, 2021 Germany, Ukraine and Denmark but when you come up against real quality like this Italian side are, then you have to do more.
From his team selection I predicted to friends and family it would be 0-0, the early goal was great but we soon slipped into our shells and the tide was firmly against us from then on.
we have such good attacking players and it has almost never felt like they’ve really been given the freedom and support to attack, we needed that last night as we could have been clear after 20 mins, there was so much space down our right but failing to register another attempt in that first half was disastrous.
I echo the thoughts that a real winning manager would have won with that squad and playing the tournament at home

The main issue was our midfield, no penetrative passing, no carrying the ball past a press, no goal threat. Our forwards probably received the ball from Stones and Maguire more than they did from Mount and Phillips.
Rice was actually playing brilliantly last night, winning the ball back, driving forward and trying to make things happen so Southgate subbed him off and kept the other 2 on and there lies the problem.

Apparently Southgate had them practicing penalties him and his coaching staff were all there with clipboards making notes who were the best penalty takers and that’s what he went of and why when it came to penalties he said your taking one your taking one! Sorry yep practice pens but when it comes to pens after 120mins look the players in the eye and ask who wants to take a penalty! All the top managers know you can now recreate a pressurised penalty shoot out!

Total Mancini masterclass last night - well done Roberto and Italy. Acted throughout the game when changes needed making. Totally deserved it.

I hate Pickford's kicking game - spoilt by Ederson, I guess - but he was brilliant to save those two penalties, shame his team mates let him and England down.

Can't get my head around their mass support for Mr Anti-Football. Reminds me of the Emperor's New Clothes. Needs a little boy to suddenly say "But mum, Mr Southgate's not a good manager."

Thought Rice was brilliant until Southgate for some reason hooked him. Needed someone on who could get us up the pitch when we were under pressure before they scored, Grealish or Sancho would have been a good choice even fucking Saint Fishfingers. Southgate lost the game by not wanting to lose, strange but fuck it, least it was more exciting than normal

Worst thing we could have done last night was scoring after 2 minutes (apart from getting a player sent off or conceding). You just knew Waistcoat would try and defend a 1-0 for 88 minutes.

Not a f*cking clue what he was thinking for the penalties, if at all.

Over 75 minutes devoted to a lost football match on BBC Breakfast including many scenes of total disregard of Covid rules by thousands of people.
Then a change, an item about relaxation of the rules next week. The powers that be are hoping people will voluntarily stick to the old rules.
Some hope of that judging by last night.
I went over to The Restorers on Quest.

Southgate failed again.
Well being generous they achieved the bare minimum this time.
He’ll be hoping for an easy draw again next year
