it's bad enough bringing one sub on while defending a corner unless it's a 6' 5" center half but to bring two on was schoolboy stuff, i said to my lad at the time i thought he'd lost the plot
Totally blizzare wasn’t it - I’m sure Mancini told his players to kick the ball out of play for the subs to happen as there was only 2 minutes left till the final whistle and they were in comfortable possession.

Agree I dont understand why the press/media arent calling him out. He has had two tournaments in which England have had an easy route.

Everyone can see Southgate is clueless and out of his depth, apart from the British press/media and fa lol

I honestly dont think southgate knows how to use Foden and Grealish. Why was mount left wing to start yesterday. I struggled to see what Mount brought to the team. Yet when he did pick Foden he had to play right wing, when at City he's on the left keeping Sterling out ! . Than last night out of no where Mount is left wing Sterling right wing why didn't he do that for Foden ?.
Southgate Is an ok manager at picking the first 11 on the pick which is all well and fine if they win the games such as what we have seen last two tournaments but the problem lies when he has to counter other mangers subs like last night he didn’t have a clue to react to Mancini. I remember the city and Leeds game at Leeds when pep and bielsa both used it as a chess match something which Southgate can’t do . The problem we now have is that he cannot be sacked because he had actually now got the best record since Ramsey but he will never win England a trophy either because this was England’s best ever chance and also when you look at it England are classed as one of the big top countries for football but 2 finals in 55 years is appalling .

Basically bringing on Sancho and Rashford when he did is telling them he doesn't think they're good enough to effect the game in open play but ok to take a penalty , same with the substitutions and taking off of both Grealish and Henderson , for someone who's lauded for his man management skills , he is certainly unconventional , imagine the flack Pep would receive if he bought on a player only to then take him off 10 minutes or so later..

Any football fan who knows their stuff realised long ago that Southgate is somewhat limited in his tactical ability.
You know what though?? I still wanted England to win.
It's a damn shame those lads didn't get over the line last night, and yes the tactics were shite.
Yet Bobby Robson, Venables and SGE didn't manage it either.
I think Southgate is probably an excellent man manager. Just a shit one where tactics are concerned.
Yet, as a collective, that whole England set up was a breath of fresh air compared to the ones with the egos and wags of the last 20 years.
At least they got rid of that.

I've just watched some videos of the trouble when people stormed the gate at Wembley. It's odd I have no idea why the fans in there got so affronted and started attacking the ones coming through the gate. "Pay your fucking money!" I kept on hearing. Why get involved? Why not let the stewards deal with it,? It's not like they were away fans storming the home end or something. Weird one.
How would you have felt if the twats took your seat and security refused to act, or stood directly in front in the aisles?

I'd have demanded they were removed. Have you watched the videos,?People were attacking them as they came through the gate and calling others to join in the attack.

Going off what happened yesterday at Wembley, anyone expect a sharp rise in hooliganism this season up and down the country

That is an interesting angle that I had not considered. Bigger picture and all that. Agreed.

With regards fans storming past security and some into the the stadium i think it showed passion not seen at a football match for ages. Why the idiots inside wanted to kick fuck out them I don’t know, when I was younger I went to loads of City away games without a ticket and would do anything to get into the stadium. Money and commercialism has sanitised the game into banality, fucking hell some fans showed passion and desperation to watch a game, good for them.

Wouldn't surprise me, but I really hope not. The authorities had a chance yesterday to do their matchday risk assessment and implemented an initial ring of security checks before any entramces up to Wenbley. The last time I went to a game in Germany they had just that, a line of tooled up police and rabid dogs, through a metal detector with a quick ticket check, then onto the stadium and the main turnstiles. Too late now, but yesterday's trouble could have been averted. One more thing, the Italians won't forget last night.

Yep, I'd say any English teams are in for slightly more fun than usual if drawn against Italian teams in the CL

I'm really surprised at all the anti-Southgate comments to be honest.

He has guided England to the semi-final of the World Cup and the final of the Euros. Correct me if I'm wrong, but who else other than Ramsey comes close to that level of success? No one. Simple as that. You can pick imaginary England managers like Pep, but I don't think he'd do better than Southgate with the players he's got.

For the first 30 minutes last night, we looked really good. We looked the better team and if we'd scored another we'd have had a great chance of winning it. Obviously in the second half, Italy got back into the game and it's clear they are a great team and are managed by a legend. It surely can't be a surprise to anyone that a great team dominate a game. Have we EVER dominated a team like Italy? I've watched us for 40 years and don't remember it.

We took Italy to penalties in a final. We were incredibly close to winning it and it's easy with hindsight to look back and say Rashford, Saka and Sancho shouldn't have took them. I guarantee if Walker, Shaw and Stones had took them and missed the same people would be saying Rashford, Saka and Sancho should take them as they are forwards. Penalty shoot-outs are decided on very fine margins. That's life. It's impossible to predict the shoot outs and our keeper did well on them too.

Some England fans are starting to remind me of Newcastle fans at times. We don't have - yet - many genuine World Class players, but we expect England to play like Pep's City. Most teams who win the international trophies don't play gung-ho, they play patiently and cautiously. Not even teams like Brazil, France, Germany, Argentina or Portugal bomb forwards constantly. If they did, they'd get beat.

Southgate has copied Pep's tactics and we play out from the back. Pickford isn't Ederson but the back line of Walker, Stones, Maguire and Shaw is now as good as any in the world. He's made Phillips and Rice into impressive defensive midfielders and I'm sure Bielsa and Moyes would shake his hand. I'm gutted we didn't see more of Foden and Grealish, but Southgate got more right than wrong and to be honest, Foden didn't make himself undroppable did he? I didn't rate Mount and though Kane was anonymous but he's difficult to drop.

Southgate has hit on tactics which will take England far into any international competition. We might not win any, but we'll be in with a good shout. He's done it twice now, so it's no fluke. I'm absolutely positive he will be kicking himself this morning, but I'm also sure he will be thinking about the next tournament too. He's an intelligent man. he will learn and from what I can see, the players love him as a manager.

I do sometimes think we need to just cut England managers some slack. For some reason we expect a bunch of non-world class players to win every single tournament and give no credit to the opposition.

I bet Mancini knew he'd had a game last night and had to earn that result.

Wouldn't fancy a trip to napoli

Southgate came in and steadied the ship after the joke tournament of 2016 and the actions of Big Sam and he’s done a good job but if folk think he’s the man to win us things then they need to have a word ............anyone with half an idea about football would have changed it after the very most 60 minutes but not him what he did made no sense at all......... don’t even get me started in the pens because anybody in there right head wouldn’t have let that kid have the real pressure penalty
