Bluemoon Angling Thread

The snr project grew up the fish from the hatchery to smolt size when they were released back into the Wye to descend to the sea.
They were safe from predation so survival rates were much, much higher.
The hatcheries and ponds have sadly been shut down.

This seasons Wye salmon catch is looking like being one of the lowest on record.

Have a look at The Wye Salmon Association site mate , and I would urge anyone interested to join up. Its only a tenner, and if you fancied a day trying for a salmon they have a Rods On River section offering free days salmon fishing!

Cheers.

The barbel are rolling on the surface at the moment for some reason mate, but if was a big fish sort of splashing side on in a pool the chances are it was a 'resident' salmon.
Sea trout are very very rare on the Wye and are usually mistaken for brownies that have silvered up in coloured water.
Lice on the chub doesn't sound good. I will ask my mate who coarse fishes the Wye regularly about it.
Whereabouts were you fishing mate?

The PA stretch at Symonds Yat, will you let me know what he says ?

In my experience barbel roll occasionally in coloured, shallow water whilst feeding. Not a lot though.

Bastard covid has put my fishing on its areas for a while. Lovely coloured water in the northern rivers too.
That makes sense mate. The Wye is certainly coloured and shallow enough at the mo.

Sorry to hear about your covid.

went down the canal (macc) today, had a very short frustrating session, got myself some new lures and in the space of five minutes managed to get 2 caught up in a bush and a third snagged on the same bush which fell into the water, i was fucking furious with myself, spent an hour trying to snag the two that were stuck in the bush

Sorry to hear that mate. I used to see Barbel rolling on the Swale when I was a youngster. Usually when they were part of a sizeable shoal. I thought it was normal behaviour. If I'm honest it was normally on hot days so maybe something to do with water temp.

Incidentally, if anyone is looking for a fantastic all-round feeder rod, I can heartily recommend the Drennan Specialist Twin-tip Duo 12ft 1lb test curve rod. Comes with an Avon top and a quiver top with 1.5oz and 2oz tips.

Wouldn't recommend it for big barbel in flood conditions but I've had all my recent fish, lake and river on it and it's the best all-round feeder rod I've had. And I've had a lot.

The most rolling I’ve ever seen was when I used to fish The Wharfe and it was high. Must be a Yorkshire thing.
