Personally I would always hire a car wherever i go especially with the additional hassle nowadays but buses are plentiful and reliable

East - From HDP (definitely worth grabbing some sandwiches and taking in the scenery around this park) you are closer to the eastern side of the island and would head to Green Island Beach and then further east takes you to Gorey castle and long sandy beach which is a picturesque setting and has one of the biggest tidal movements in the world and you can see houses in France in the distance. Gorey Pier got some lovely restaurants/pubs as well

North - Rocky coastal line and farmer territory but very scenic - lovely old pubs dotted around and you can still hear the mutterings of Jersey/French spoken in some by the old boys - quite a few Neolithic settlements dotted around and lots of tea houses as well serving everything with lashings of Jersey cream . Take a walk to Devils hole and great historic pub the priory Inn is there

West - Surf territory - 5 mile beach is one long stretch of surf hangouts and great to get a few pints seeing them do their stuff out there with a good swell on the go. German fortifications set up in preparation for the British invasion can be seen along the beach wall

South - Brings you back towards St Helier but worth checking out Portelet beach and St Brelades bay which is the more to be seen at beach is - St Aubins beach area is also very nice and quite a bot of Beregerac was filmed there. Worth visiting German underground hospital for a trip back in time when the island was occupied

St Helier - pubs and restaurants galore as its the financial center - trip to Elizabeth castle is worth doing as this gets surrounded by the sea at full tide

My favourite pubs - Portelet Inn - sublime views after a day on the beach - Smugglers Inn near St Brelades - St Mary's country Inn and if you are in town and want a place that specialises in pints of scrumpy go to the Lamplighter - trip back in time!

Enjoy you can't go wrong unless it's pissing down

Apologies if this question has been asked many times already..

I've been given a spare week off next week and am thinking about booking a last minute break to Spain / Canary Islands. I'm double jabbed so does that mean I only need to get a return test 3 days before coming back to England and also have a day 2 test booked as well?

The test out in Spain, can it be either PCR or Antigen?

Hi mate rules as follows if your double jabbed and assuming it's been 2 weeks since your 2nd jab:

Entry to Canary Islands you just need to fill in a passenger locator form before you arrive.

Coming back to the UK
No earlier than 72 hours take a rapid antigen test
You then assuming it's negative get a fit to fly form and then fill in a passenger locator form for the UK.
Then you take a day 2 covid test after you return and you don't have to quarantine

HOWEVER!
You will have noted the change to travel from France due to the South African variant that was announced on Friday. This means now irrespective of having 2 jabs travellers still need to quarantine for 10 days or do test to release after 5 days.
Their is a lot of talk of Spain and Greece to be next on the chopping board as they both have cases of the SA variant.
I suspect Spain will quickly be moved to this new Amber Plus so I would be very wary about going.
Despite several reports on treating the Canary Islands separately this never seems to happen and is grouped with Spain despite being nowhere near it geographically.

Cheers for the full breakdown, I'm having a hard time keeping up with all of these rules and changes!

I might have to start looking elsewhere then.. I initially looked at Croatia but that was binned off once I realised they weren't accepting the Indian covid vaccine.

Being double jabbed means amber countries are the same rules to follow? Might just be easier to stay at home!

This time last week Grant Shapps (Transport Sec) said green / amber list in essence for fully vaccinated people would be the same, i.e. no need for quarantine and just 1 test before leaving and 1 on return.
However with new SA Variant they have created "Amber Plus" for France with strong rumours of Spain / Greece to follow which will mean quarantine (irrespective of vaccination status) plus an additional day 8 test on return to the UK.

It's absolute Russian roulette, i've Gran Canaria booked for October but I'm extremely jittery and I'm thinking hard of switching it until next year. Suppose the mantra to have is travel during a pandemic is high risk and can quickly change and the stress of keep looking at your phone and reading the news waiting for the next change negates all the enjoyment a holiday should bring.
Have you tried Blackpool in July?
