They've needed a dedicated right sided player with quality for about 5 years and now have an experienced centre back with pace, be interesting to see if they'll step up the pitch and look to control games a bit more. The problem is everyone in centre mid is either a workhorse or wonder ball merchant, nobody wants to dictate play or even do the simple thing consistently. Solskjaer doesn't seem interested in coaching that style, all their best performances under him have been direct and speedy attacks into space. I can't see that winning the league unless teams greatly underestimate them leaving themselves open eg Leicester and Chelsea under Conte, but those clubs didn't finish second the season before.

I don't know what it is but there seems to be something not quite together at that club, not everyone pulling in the same direction and the media spotlight making it all high pressure. They don't seem as if they're a team like lfc and City where the players all play for each other. We will see, Varane looks good, let's see if he's really up for the fight.

Completely agree. Think it bothers us, the fans, more than anyone who could do something about it.

I spoke with Bernard Halford around ten years ago about the way the media portray us and he said we were playing the long game, winning hearts and minds.

Varane has been excellent in the past but has been a weak link in a shit Real Madrid defence in recent years. I think he is over-rated based on his current form but probably an upgrade on Lindelof. The same sort of hype surrounds Cavani. He was fantastic at Napoli (he destroyed our team) but these days he is a shadow of the past (though he still has a few moments).

Not going to lie, with Varane's signing I'm truly excited about our defense, I was talking with some friends and we were discussing if now we have the best defense in the league.

Of course the obvious candidates are City, Liverpool, Chelsea and us. Going name by name I think besides the keeper we are not behind in any department. Shaw is top of the league, Maguire and Varane are up there at top with anyone behind maybe VVD who we don't know how is going to come back after that injury and Dias.

Attacking wise I think Liverpool's defense is still the most exciting but defending wise I don't think I would swap for any other team not just in the premier league but in the world.

What are your thoughts?

I think De Gea is one of the worst keepers in the Premier League and Henderson is still unproven. I rate Shaw and Maguire highly but Varane has been terrible in recent seasons at Madrid. Bissaka is a good defender but can't pass the ball which is a big problem. Chelsea, Liverpool, and City, are much stronger defensively than United. Don't believe the idiots in the press.
That said I think the United squad has been strengthened and they will be a threat. I also think that Telles could develop into a really good defender. Trippier would be a great signing.
 
Going to be interesting what happens with the Rags next year, there is little doubt that they have improved the squad and their starting 11 should also be stronger with the signings of Varane and Sancho. What remains to be seen is how the team performs with the new signings and if little gollum can find a system where they all gel.

I am expecting us to be stronger than last year along with Chelsea and the Dippers, Leicester will always be there abouts and just need to see out the final 6 weeks of the season.

Lets see if they hold on to Pogba and how Cavani is another year older, Fernandez is the one that could go either way for me. Seems to blow hot and cold so who knows what to expect.

"Playing the long game " is, often as not, just an excuse for inaction.

That really doesn't worry me that they will take the title off us, as they haven't addresses their biggest weakness, a holding DM.
Fred is average and Mctominay blows hot n cold

They averaged 1.9 goals per game last season second best strike rate in the league and didn't need sancho really, they needed a freny/kante type player and without addressing that they will drop points.

Varane isn't an improvement and slabhead is a daft ****.

Their squad has been improved but they will still be a kick and chase side. With the purchase of Varane it'll be interesting to see if he carries on playing 2 defensive midfielders.
 
I can't believe these media darlings havent been lambasted for spending copious amounts of money on average players whilst we haven't spent anything yet and are the evil fuckers ruining the game by trying to get players in at a fair price whilst raising funds by selling off some of the ones who won't feature
