Heart of Midlothian FC Thread

Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee, Dundee Utd, St Mirren were always been the bedrock of the SPL since my childhood Panini album days. That league needs its big games and derbies, especially when fans return, if only for financial reasons.

Dundee and St Mirren have been yoyo clubs since the panini album days (and before). Of those you've mentioned Dundee United, Hibs and Hearts have all spent time away from the top league - certainly Hibs and Dundee United when the 'SPL' was a thing.

The only 4 clubs who've been ever present in the SPL/Scottish Premiership since it's formation in the late 90s are Celtic, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Motherwell.

And only 2 of those can claim to have been there on merit throughout that time (Celtic and Kilmarnock) as both Aberdeen and Motherwell have finished bottom of the league but stayed up on technicality over stadium/seating rules which have since been abolished.

Although, give it another two weeks and perhaps Celtic will be the only club able to stake that claim, if/when Kilmarnock get relegated :-(

A win would be a good start, a draw would be perceived as a missed opportunity, and a defeat would be a rude awakening.

Last time the Hearts were promoted, an excellent season fueled unrealistic expectations, which arguably led to a downward spiral. Perhaps a more mediocre season would fuel more realistic expectations and a period of consolidated growth.
