Fernandinho at age 36 is completely tired but he alone has to sort our midfield defensively, and the reason for that imo is that Pep does not fully trust Rodri to do that.

We‘ve made some very poor signings in the last couple of years, Rodri, Aké, Torres more than most. Mendy is shit now but that’s because of his injuries. I think those signings, and trying to save money is coming home to roost. If we get Kane though we can probably paper over those cracks for a season or two. If we don’t get him it’s going to be a shit season.
