I think people underestimate the importance of Home game and fans this season. You could see Spurs growing in confidence with the fans

One team had pretty much a full pre-season, the the other clearly didn't and it showed.

Also, don't underestimate the influence Taylor had on the outcome of that game with his point blank refusal to book Spurs defenders for numerous challenges for which you can bet your bottom dollar any one of our defenders will be booked for anything approaching similar challenges next week.

Just as an aside, the Match thread was its usual bear pit, and there were some bang out of order comments on there (as usual). Mendy had a poor game by anyone's standard, but some of the stuff aimed at him was pretty bad.

First game of the season, a lot of our regulars not quite fit yet and a few possibly leaving and coming in before the end of the month

add to that playing Spurs away, at a ground we never do well at, with a new manager, and the first proper game with fans back. It was always going to be difficult.

Next week against Norwich will be hopefully different and the international break coming up might do us a favour getting players more match fit

Yes agreed, the only player who can hold his head up high in that dressing room.

For long parts of last season we were strong at the back which gave us a base to work from.
Today we had Ake / Mendy partnership which is repeatedly a disaster, Cancelo who looked shot come the 2nd half.
Add to that Ederson looked like he was still on holiday.
in front of them we had Fern who was continually exposed.
best we get this one out of our system and fast !

Hi as a spurs fan my assessment was that City were good but I just thought Spurs as a team played out of their skins in the 2nd half.
I'm obviously over the moon as for me City are the best team in the league. You can tell just by the fact they're able to bring on De Bruyne and he just changes the game instantly.

I'm sure you already know this but the weakness today for me wasn't the lack of ST rather that left-hand side with Mendy. We got a lot (too much) joy from there.

I also do wonder if this result/match has any effect on your pursuit of Kane.

It's been a long summer for a lot of our players & the next few games will be hard as they regain match fitness & play into the season. I would place no importance on the result of the first match of the season. If we are reasonably close to the top in January other teams should worry because City know how to put a set of results together & hold their nerve.

Even Arsenal would beat us playing like that. Truly awful performance. Even though they were really up for it because they know they’re losing Kane to us, it doesn’t excuse are total lack of fight. Shocking display. It says something when our best player in the game was KDB who only came on for the last 15 minutes. I wouldn’t pay them their wages as they certainly didn’t earn them.

Said it all really when Kev came on feel like he injected a small bite into our attack, everyone else around him just looked average in comparison.

The defence just didn’t look settled at all. Cancelo Ake and the donkey are a huge drop down from the rest. I love fernan but his age was showing today.

I thought gundo was also fine. Torres was also fine he just had fuck all decent service.

It was no surprise to me that when mendy and sterling came off we looked better.

The big dissapointment for me was mahrez after the preseason he had...
