Which part of THAT^^^^ SMH DOESN’T scream exasperation or a lack of understanding of what on earth the other poster is seeing that I’m not?!
And why the need for dissection if a throwaway comment? Say something worthwhile or move on already!
Btw, did you just learn the term “straw man,” because you sure like to throw it around!
If you want to be in the football BUSINESS, then you need to abide by the rules of the business. It’s literally that simple.
The rules change and you can either move with the times (pay inflated fees and wages) or get left behind trying to develop second tier talent to aid in your survival.
This is where the whole notion of “buying clubs” and “selling clubs” comes from. Some clubs generate enough income to be able to buy the players the selling clubs develop. A prime example of a selling club would be Southampton, which is known for its development of talent, yet they survive BY doing that! They sell one player, the money helps keep them afloat, and they bring through another player or go out and purchase an undervalued player from elsewhere and try to develop him.
City would be a buying club. They have brought very little talent through their own system in the last decade, so they have spent big money from their income generation to acquire top talent in order to stand s claim at the top table of European football and to always be in the mix for the PL title.
Some people constantly whine about “the business” of football because they either don’t understand it or can’t stand it. Either way, it is simplistic and naive to drone on about agents, fees, wages, etc. They’re part and parcel of a burgeoning global business.
When the bubble bursts, everyone will have to react to that market, too. Some will feel more pain than others, but people will still figure out a way to make money, or get paid, just as they always have done.
Lastly, what on earth makes you think I need to “save face” with you?!
