Theo Hernandez

I'm fairly sure I remember that we were linked with both him and his brother when they were at Athletico(?)

Seems to fit the profile. Young, fairly tall for a LB, quick, solid technically - especially dribbling. The £68M pricetag is a little steep, but which big club will really be in for LB next summer? Plus his contract expires in June 2024 so, possible extensions aside, maybe that might see the price drop slightly.

Seeing as over the past five seasons we've converted a CM, an AM, played a RB and used Mendy, I'm all for finally signing a specialist LB, especially if he can replicate his attacking number.

Does he have a release clause?

Out of interest..if we are to buy a LB, can someone with some insight explain what happens with Mendy if he gets a custodial sentence ? I assume the club can cancel his contract should that happen, but does the club simply then lose the value of the player (admittedly not much given recent performances) or do they have insurance to cover such a scenario ? Often wondered what happens if a player gets a career ending injury or a gets a custodial sentence.

I'm kinda interested to see how Pep lines up with a natural LB, the system as is, is pretty perfect to allow control and not get caught on the counter or let Rodri be overwhelmed with the 8's as free as they are to make late runs (Gundo) or offer passes to the man on the ball (Bernardo).

If the plan is to eventually move Jack to LCM and have Kev RCM. A lone 6 is in for a hell of a job, unless he's going with an asymmetric kinda thing with one down the flank and the other side tucking into CB or Def Mid.

I've wondered the same. I suspect insurance isn't worth much because the premiums would be absolutely colossal on big money players.

Was hearing City could claim back his book value on what duration was left on his contract at the time?

Bought for £52m and spread over six years, so with just 20 months left, we're looking at offsetting roughly £13m.

That's more than we could ever have got paying his wages, watching him still walk away for free at the end of seeing out his contract.

I would have thought we could sack him and annul the contract too.
