Chinese made stuff.

Dodgy construction is normally more about corruption, lack of regulation, and people syphoning off the budget for themselves. When I left Saigon in 2016, they were supposedly 1 year away from opening their first metro line. It was somehow costing more per kilometre than any metro in history, including a very similar project in Korea where the workers earn many times more. But they ran out of money when the Japanese investors refused to increase their loans and now it's not expected to be opening until early 2024 (and I'll believe that when I see it). You see it all over in corrupt countries. These people who earn an official salary of less than $1k yet somehow can afford a Mercedes and a Rolex. The inspectors whose main job is to go to different businesses and take bribes and then sit on their fat arse all day (not even) pretending to work.

But it's not just developing countries. A lack of oversight and regulation can cause disasters everywhere. Fukushima, Grenfell, that tower that collapsed in America, all had safety concerns raised well before the disasters occurred. But profiteering or indifference comes first a lot of the time.

Having said that, his arguments about old buildings and bridges is bollocks. There are obviously far more historical buildings that haven't survived than the few that have.

I’m sure it has had nothing to do with the exponential growth of massive industrial cities and the CAPITALIST motivations that have created them…

…most bang for least bucks…

…as opposed to the ridiculous notion that morality only lives inside a religious place, time or person.

In such a Communist, anti-religious hotbed as Florida, we are going to have to root out the Chinese Communist anti-morality atheists that built the Surfside Condo building, which collapsed this year killing almost 100 people while they slept….not to mention all the churches around the world that have collapsed over the last two millennia!

Yeah it started out okay and then just went on some sort of moralistic rant about religion. So presumably other rapidly developing parts of the world like India and Africa are protected from building collapses by their high levels of religiosity.

Oh, hang on...
Bridge collapses in India last week.
7 bridges collapse in Uganda last month.

Some time ago, we decided not to buy anything made in China. Not for idealogical reasons, but because their goods were total crap.
-Had a box of light bulbs: useless, lasted no time.
-Bought some lighting: just stopped working.
-Read stories of battery chargers which caught fire.
Etc etc etc.

I think there's a big difference between stuff made in China by reputable companies and some chancer selling shit products on Amazon. A friend gave me a cheap Chinese extension lead and for ages I was wondering why I would turn on my PS4 only to be told off for unplugging it without shutting it down. Then one day it randomly cut out while I was playing and the mystery was solved. But I now have it plugged into a Belkin one and I'm gonna guess that was also made in China.

Similarly, I'm very wary about stuff that's a cheaper version of a specialist item. I once bought a cheap Chinese knockoff of a camera stabilizer, and it's obvious when something has been made by someone who actually knows what they're doing rather than someone ripping off the design of a more expensive product. But then if you look at another company like DJI, also Chinese, then they are leaders in the field because they actually know what they're doing and don't base their entire business model on doing existing products cheaper.
