The Big Match Revisited (ITV)

The turn around was amazing in today's world of immediate results he would gave been canned after half a season.
I always believed he grew to be better than Shilton who kept him out the England team.
Whether it was maturity, determination to improve of Joey Holts bitter I don't know, but something turned him into a brilliant keeper.
Can’t be Joey Holts. I couldn’t catch COVID!

On Big Match Revisited ITV 4 now, December 1979

Spurs vs Rags
Cambridge vs QPR
Manchester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Didn't Malcolm Allison tell him to stop eating meat and potato pie and chips for lunch if he wanted to improve?
Not heard that one before, I know Allison was years ahead of his time in relation to diet etc so it could be true.
Great keeper what ever changed him

I’d have been there that day and would have been giddy seeing the tv trucks there, different times and for the life of me I can’t recall Emlyn Hughes playing for Wolves.
Yeah, funny how you mention the trucks cos I was explaining on the way back from chelsea to my son as we went passed Maine Road and it was dark and I was reminiscing that you only knew you we were on motd, Big Match when you turned that corner onto Maine Road itself in my way of approaching the game. I told him if we weren't on any highlights programme that a memorable goal still etched in ones mind would be there and never seen on any screen, youtube etc. Some beautiful memories and not just the goals be it seen or unseen.

The formality of it is amusing. In the letters section of the show, Brian Moore used to read the full address of the writer, including the house number. And his head does look uncannily like London Planetarium.

By the way, you're currently 3 down against Ipswich.

No gloves but Keith Weller of Leicester did turn out once in a pair if tights when it was cold and he was protecting an injury. A huge talking point at the time, front page news, “the game’s gone” shouts etc
Strange thing with Keith Weller was his tights were white if i remember? & it looked a bit odd, probably still would even now.

turned over when that 3rd one went in, bastard Ipswich

Forgive and forget Major. 42 years ago. Who on earth was John Henry?
If you mean Tony Henry? his name was quite similar to Thierry Henry but thats really where any comparisons end. (not being to harsh he was a fairly ordinary midfielder who player around 80 games & scored half a dozen goals)
