I just don't think there is any point going for someone like him.

Delap is our "project" striker.

If we want a striker for the starting 11 they have to displace Ferran or the False 9, they have to be one of the world's best.

Haaland or Mbappe are the only options.

Thats a theory often thrown around, players like Ings have never played week in week out against packed defences , and when we don’t play against teams that park the bus we score a few.
Against packed organised defences Ings wouldn’t score any more than Torres or Jesus. Ings and players like him also couldn’t press and be involved in our passing games like Jesus or Torres. So any old decent striker insn’t what we want, nor what we will look for, we want much more than that.

Ings record is 57 in 146, Jesus has 52 in 137, Torres 9 in 28. Ings has played for lesser teams but our two have played against teams defending for their lives, and out on the wing much of the time.

Torres at just 21 has ten goals for Spain already, Jesus (24) has scored 18 for Brazil. Ings is 29 and will not improve from here, he’s had a good couple of seasons or so but will likely start to decline.

Ings does look sharp and I can see why people rate him but there’s not a lot of hard evidence that he would do any better than what we have.
