Apart from continually waving bank notes at the Etihad, slagging off our support, and the club. Bar that, they are a decent and friendly bunch.
 
My take from reading the article is that all the Premier League clubs are concerned about the process of consultation not necessarily the take over itself. I can understand City being in that boat. Reports try to conflate this with the Human Rights and other issues raised as an excuse by some clubs. I suspect (hope)we are not in that camp.

The questions to the PL from other clubs was on 'the structure of the consortium' of the body down as owners. Don't really know any detail, but it doesnt read like it was an objection to the principle of a takeover or even who was getting it, but a structure within the set ownership rules.

Think we will see this happen more often, I would think that any comments in which Khaldoon or any member of the City hierarchy mentiones anything to do with it, will be consistent with the comments they made about our own takeover and investment. They will be diplomatic, respectful of PL/UEFA and the rulemakers, but ultimately seemingly supportive of Newcastle ownership, with a hint that our own model is a good one. And there will be headlines that will claim behind the scenes objections to it which will look like hypocrisy on our part. There probably will be a real duality on some level. But more so, the media will be looking to paint a picture of Newcastle ownership as unwelcome, and we will inevitably get caught in the broadbrush.


That is just my comment on how I see that particular headline btw, I'd have no issue claimimg hypocrisy of our lot if I saw it that way.

I think the ‘real’ headlines were the old top 4 tried to stop it happening and the newspapers ran with that last week with lots of details......but the Beeb has decided to water down that approach by suggesting all 19 clubs were against it. The article however doesn’t mention much evidence of this......maybe they need to fact check their own article
 
I’m not buying into this ‘oh they deserve a bit of success’ shite that’s coming from a certain corner of our fan base, and on this thread.

Newcastle fans are like rags/scousers, they believe their club is somehow holier than thou and they have some god given right to success. They’ve sneered at City over the years and now all of a sudden the racist judging of our ownership has gone out of the window now they’ve got a few quid.

I hope it blows up in the fuckers faces, bollocks to them.

On the other hand I’ve always found Sunderland fans to be a friendly and reasonable bunch - always had a bit of a soft spot for them, a bit like West Ham.
 
Saw some Newcastle fan saying, on one of the Sky Sports youtube videos on the matter: "Lets not forget, Newcastle have a history of success before the money, unlike Chelsea and City"

Infuriating levels of misinformation. I wasn't logged in so I didn't reply, might have to tell them where they've gone wrong with that statement, if I can find it again.

I highly doubt we are but why do people insist on taking newspaper headlines at face value? We know more than enough about the media to understand they're constantly intent on whipping up hysteria by making a lurid headline out of a non-story. And naturally, the holier-than-thou Guardian is going to try to whip something relatively bureaucratic into the whole human rights angle.

I suspect there's two stories here. One will almost certainly involve the usual group of suspects - United, Arsenal, Liverpool & Spurs - who are shit-scared of this takeover. The other involves the 19 other members of the PL, which is a member-owned organisation, being annoyed that the PL didn't consult them or give them advance notice of their negotiations with the Saudis.

They will do what it takes to make Newcastle a great club and a serious threat to the present top 4 , including ourselves.

It will take time, mistakes will be made along the way BUT they WILL BE A SERIOUS THREAT.

Competition will make us stronger and reduce complacency if we ever had it.

I agree, but we're talking years here, regardless of their vast wealth, FFP means that there's only so much they can throw at this project and they're starting much lower down the pecking order than us.

They need a plan and they need to get some adults in the room who know what they're doing.

The likes of Spurs, Arsenal, Everton, Leicester and West Ham should be looking over their shoulder, in the medium term Newcastle poses a threat to them. In the long term they're a threat to Liverpool and the rags, in the even longer term they're a competitor with us.

They'll never be a threat to City.

It’s possible to be annoyed about how something is done, rather than what was done.

It’s also possible that we’ve agreed to attend the meeting but that doesn’t guarantee we will say what the Guardian is implying at that meeting.

I wonder if the club will come out with a statement on it, either condemning it or welcoming them to the league.

That story in the MEN is just a lift from a speculative piece in the Guardian. It has no substance at all. I don't believe for one minute that City have objected to the Newcastle deal. The opposition is being driven by the usual suspects LFC, MUFC, Spurs, and Arsenal who have undoubtedly been doing their usual toxic briefings to the media. Other media outlets (notably the Daily Mail) have made it clear that Levy is the prime mover of the opposition.

I have to agree.

Since Sheikh Mansour bought City, and City have been winning trophies, Newcastle’s fanbase has become pretty bitter towards us. Let’s be honest, they’ve hardly been gushing about our owners, club, and fanbase. Admittedly they aren’t as bitter about us as the Red Shirt fans. The Geordies will come to the Etihad this season giving it the big one after the takeover.
 
Why should we welcome the geordies to the top table, we was made to feel like a turd in a swimming pool. So fuck em let have to deal with the shit City still do today.

Well, you dont know what talks City have had with other parties which came to nothing, and why. We hear only about successful talks.

City never say anything. They only came out and made a statement about the Super League due to the backlash from our fans, other football fans, the Government, etc.
 
Our owners are here to do good business and make this club the best they can. I can totally understand them not wanting an extra threat to our success.
On the other hand us, as fans, can see the positives in the Newcastle takeover as it will affect the teams in red a lot more than it will affect us. Plus the more magnanimous amongst us will take some pleasure watching the long suffering Newcastle support enjoy a ride similar to the one bestowed upon our team.
Good luck to the Geordies and I live in hope of a season soon without a team in red in the top 4 - although when it happens watch them change the rules, but that’s for a different thread …

I know a few Geordies and they were all ok with our takeover, they were happy we broke the “sky sports 4” cartel.
 
No doubt Sly sports will have an hour long interview with Klopp this Friday on the subject.
When really he should be talking about his own team's fixture that weekend.
I reckon it will go along his normal lines of "i've not been able to sleep because of this" and "it's a bad day for football" blah blah.

Do me a favour Klopp and put the glasses back on.
