China is choosing to grow and to ramp up its economy at the expense of the environment. This is happening on a scale that has never happened before. The UK contribution to climate change now and in the past is nothing compared to what China is now doing. You're an idiot.
We've reaped the rewards of industrial growth on the back of polluting the planet, who are we to lecture China and India that they can't do the same for their people?
We can only pressure India and China if we are seen to get our own house in order first, and develop the technology for clean prosperity, and more importantly share it with them.
To say that we shouldn't protest against China because we once did the same on a miniscule scale is completely ridiculous. If we became completely carbon zero tomorrow then nothing whatsoever would change globally. Our emissions at this stage are completely irrelevant to the world and they're decreasing so what is the point in protesting about it?
Personally I'd just enjoy it whilst it lasts and not worry about it because what is the point? All the protesters have achieved is annoying people, we might get some free insulation out of it but the fact is in just 6 months China will outgrow and add back to any reduction seen in UK Co2 this year.
Until we tackle or protest against our addiction to consumption that has been outsourced to China then we may as well not bother.
