Erling Haaland

I still cannot see Haaland coming to City. He is more likely going to Real Madrid or PSG cause they can afford his salary and the pay out for his agent.

City somehow always get a player out of the magic hat that no one was considering and so many times we have been linked to high profile expensive players and we ended up passing on them! More like dodging a bullet!

Agree, i don't like some people have this idea that Haaland is the only option available in the whole world for our team. Missing to sign him like akin to end of the world, such a ridiculous overeaction.

Yeah sure not signing him will have a setback, it is still not a deal breaker. There will always be another talent that have not been spotted yet that could be greater than haaland and will better fit for us at cheaper price.

People don't realize how fast Haaland is either I don't think. He's as fast or faster than Sane and Davies in the bundesliga. At least last year they recorded him at the fastest sprint speed in the bundesliga for that year which just blows my mind because I don't think of him as particularly fast. A player with the strength of Zlatan with the speed Mbappe. He is going to be the most dangerous player in Europe for the next 5-7 years, possibly more. His physique is that of a Golden God lmao.
just for a little context on fastest recorded sprints, an aged phil jagelka was recorder as the fastest sprinter one season in the premier league, its a bit of a false stat

If you think about it, it wasn’t that much different a game than last season’s 0-0. Thanks Bailly!
total rubbish, the 0-0 was a borefest , this derby was a 2-0 destruction

the 0-0 was very even with united having more shots, how do you think they are similar

There are many threads in this forum for alternatives. The thing is, sometimes it seems people forget we are at the very top of the food chain. We will only be signing the best players. See our game vs United on the weekend. Every single one of our players start for their national team. People talk like Ruben Dias was a “discovery”; that’s only for those who didn’t know him. He was already in the starting XI of the Portuguese national team before he came. Whatever striker we sign will come into the starting XI so they have to be at the highest level, not a random player that could start for us but also for Crystal Palace. Maybe in the future we have a Barcelona phase in which we will be signing Luuk De Jong-level players and that’s normal, but we are far from there and we better take advantage of that going only after world class players. Which is why Haaland is one of the very few strikers we can possibly sign that meets the level requirement. He isn’t the only one, but all of them will cost money and have competition

This topic is 1796 pages in to the debate on Haaland, and yet some fans still don't want the best striker with the best potential for the future !? From a football point of view why would he want to go park his career at PSG? He would only get decent football every couple of weeks in the champions League, but most weeks he wouldnt . Yea he would be a very rich young man but as for expanding his football knowledge and understanding then he would be poor . Raiola has a reputation for liking money but he will make more money if the full potential of Haaland is fulfilled , only one place that happens and it is not on the continent.

Yeah I don’t see him at PSG. At all. If he comes to the PL, he becomes the poster boy for the #1 league in the world. I guess the alternative would be staying at Dortmund for another season or season and a half until Benzema leaves Madrid after the World Cup, but even that sounds implausible, and would he and Mbappe want to share the spotlight. We are in a very good position. Now we got to hope Dortmund isn’t in the UCL knockout stage — sorry Erling...

He'll make more, the more he can broker a move. I can Erling spending a few's years at a few clubs. Dortmund, Milan, MCFC, PSG etc just what order is the question.

Three things:
1) Haaland is obviously world class. If he, for example, moved to PSG - he'd start every important game. Any thoughts along the lines that he'd be better off starting for us than PSG due to reduced competition are off the mark. Competition is a non-factor in Haaland's decision-making;
2) Haaland will have his pick among several top-top sides. My take is that he's not sentimental about any top side - he'll sign for whichever top club offers him the best deal;
3) City have never paid top price for any player. Instead they've sought bargains. If our first choice is over-priced, we seek alternatives. I might be wrong - but I think this is absolutely without exception.

GIven 1-3 above, I very much doubt that Haaland signs for us next season. #3 being the chief impediment - someone will outbid us.

This is obviously not true

I hope I'm wrong. Site any example though - where we were in a bidding war for a top player and outbid opposition, spending more for that position than any other side; yes we've spent a ton on some players, and maybe even spent record amounts - but I don't recall such a case where we spent more on such a deal than we would have for some other player we were pursing.

Which is to say - we'll spend big. But we'll shop. And to date, I don't think that we've spent absolute top for any position. Dias being the latest example.

Uh, we have literally the PL record in a position we didn’t really need (according to many), or no? And Rodri, really, for his position? We didn’t “shop” with Dias either. We needed to offload Otamendi and for obvious reasons, it wasn’t being easy to do that, and Mendes helped craft a deal with a club that didn’t really even want the guy because they were out of the Champions League. Sound familiar? We have offered the same for Mbappe than PSG did, it came down to his choice. And we reportedly offered top money for Kane, or no? And think about this. Our final offer for Spurs was basically around what Haaland would cost now (clause + fee), which wasn’t the case last summer, when Dortmund wanted a prohibitive amount. Now think about this. It’s almost as if the club told itself “we’re not going beyond this because for this money we can get another player in the near future”... The wages his camp wants will be the same anywhere; I know some people imagine Raiola on the phone talking to four clubs at the same time asking them for more, but that’s not how these things work. The “bidding” fantasy likely won’t even come to reality. It comes down to choice and project. Like I said before, he comes here and becomes the poster boy of the top league in the world. He makes more money like this than going to PSG where he’s only talked about a few times a year. It’s also a myth that PSG pays considerably more in wages than we do. Of course they do pay more for the stars (Messi, Mbappe, Neymar) but it’s because we don’t have one of those. And we almost did in Mbappe and Messi (we were gonna pay more for Messi than he is receiving now). Compare what their other players make to ours in similar positions. Compare what we pay our players to similar players in the PL. Etc. All this to say, money will not be an issue. Maybe he chooses elsewhere, and nothing can be done. I just don’t believe that choice will come to money. And even if it does, your narrow-minded view assumes a player only makes money through wages and fees, which isn’t the case. That’s where the market plays a secondary part. And where us being in the PL is a huge unmatchable asset.

He could have gone to the rags but chose Dortmund, that tells me 3 things. 1 he isn't prioritising money. 2 he moves for footballing reasons. 3 he's not a ****.

He has always been on an upward trajectory in terms of league.
Going from the Bundesliga to France would be a backwards, retrograde step and not at all in keeping with his career path.
Only ‘destination’ competitions like the PL or La Liga make any sense now

The single chance they had was Solskjaer’s previous relationship with him.
Not a chance now that Erling ties his own career for the next decade to a man whose prospects of seeing the New Year in the same position are about the same as the average farmyard turkey

La Liga’s a bit decadent though. Maybe Mbappe revives it. Still hard without a strong Barcelona

Agree, Mbappe in a spectacular and futuristic new stadium could revive them short term and publicly, though the underlying financial basket case will remain without a Super League. A weak Barca is actually bad for Madrid also. Every hero needs a nemesis
