COP26

Fair enough, I just hate that word referring to older people, kind of implies they are all intransigent, stick in the muds who have no regard for anyone else. I know loads of older people who are anything but, however I do know some that would fit the word but they’re definitely outnumbered, thanks for the reply.
It’s the old divide and rule mentality -with the added bonus that if all the old ones are exterminated then “we” can get on with saving the Planet free of all those ignoranmoses

Had a "plant based" burger earlier - on a bun with burger sauce cheese onion rings lettuce and tomato - biggest let down was the "burger" - not as bad as the cardboard Linda McCartney sausage I had. If they really want to make the needed inroads into diet for climate and health reasons producers need to stop making fake copies and branch out into new innovative dishes

I agree. I like vegetarian food. What I don't like is fake versions of meat. The Indians do vegetarian food properly.

The Daily Mail comments section is flooded with Russian bots. Russia's economy is heavily reliant on fossil fuels so they have a financial interest in attempting to discredit the likes of Greta, as well as swaying public opinion on events like COP.
I wrote a similar post on there a week or so ago, and I received 157 dislikes, and no replies. I only write on that board to wind them up but I'm failing miserably. I have thousands of likes and just a few hundred dislikes, but that post was a success that gave me a good chuckle. I really do want a sea of red, but hey ho.

Yeah, Russian and Chinese bots are all over the place and I'd not really thought about that aspect to it, but in a way the point I was making was there won't be teenagers expressing their worries on there because it's old media they don't follow.

In general it's full of old men women that can't accept the world is changing, a bit like when I was a youngster and the boring old farts were complaining about pop music and long haired layabouts.

The Russians can fill the Daily Mail comments section up all they like with their bots, but it's invisible to the generation that are worried about their prospects.

I don't know what it's like on Face ache or twaddle, I don't use them, but that's just me being a boring old fart!

It's their future, and there isn't a lot being done to secure it. Our Glorious Leader travelled home from the COP 26 summit in a friends private jet. That act in itself sums up their concerns and the lack of real action on their behalf.

I'm fairly sure that's right. There is also massive support for anti-vax comments on there which can't even be reflective of the gammon population when we know that well over 90% of old people are vaccinated. It's all about shit stirring and it's the Russians that are biggest beneficiaries of this country being in disarray.
What is disgraceful is that the Mail allow it to happen, or more likely are fully complicit.
I wonder what the audience for these comments really is, 100 people, 1000? I'm surprised people are really that bothered, I'm amazed that the Russians are that bothered to leave comments for people who disagree to find.

Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion but regardless of that what we do know is that the science on climate change is perhaps clear but the solutions are not. This is where I think some people part ways and there is a lot of disagreement because what is a solution and what isn't? Protesting for change is not a solution so I find whatever activists like Greta say is usually completely irrelevant because she is not a scientist, engineer or technologist.

Moderates like me are of the opinion that climate change is real except I do not believe that we can do anything about it. At current rates, everyone talking about climate change will of died of old age by the time there is any global effect and by that time it will be far too late.

Just remember, Co2 emissions are currently at their highest ever although it took a crushing global pandemic to reduce them slightly for the first time in recorded history. Think of the restrictions and misery around that pandemic, a similar collapse in human progress and growth is what's required if we want to stop climate change right now.

The activists won't be honest about this but then again who is being honest?

The mail has over 300 million visits per month and is the UK's second most visited news and media site after the BBC, with 30% of visits from the US so if only 5% look at the comments it's still a lot of people every month. Russian and Chinese disinformation takes many forms and one of these is trying to persuade people that crazy opinions are more prevalent than they really are to give them a credibility they don't deserve.

As for Greta's views, to be honest I find her delivery quite annoying but that's probably my age causing that, but from what I can gather all she says is that governments should follow the science and expert opinion before it's too late. There's someone on here who thinks that because she's not coming up with solutions she should shut up, but if just a few governments and people with the power to do something actually do something positive as a result of the groundswell of opinion led by people like her, then she's making a difference. No-one should be expecting her to come up with scientific advice. She's only 18 FFS.

Allegra Stratton soiling herself live on Peston to defend Johnson........Jesus this is what it looks like when someone sells their soul - embarrassing

The people that get all pent up and angry about Greta are usually the ones that call others ‘snowflakes’

She never had one to start with.

If you haven't seen it go and check out the newsnight piece where she misleadingly created the impression that the single mother she was interviewing was unemployed.

Only interested in her own personal advancement.

I am on your wavelength however individually we can all reduce our footprint and that is something to strive for.

Technology like the industrial revolution itself will assist in reducing emissions the key is to do it so that those most impacted are not left behind.

Government intervention and spruiking doesn't have the impact on human behaviour that education and personal ambition has and mandating change by taxes and massive subsidies will only make it worse for the poor and impede personal ambition not that many of the rich and elite and corporations will care albeit some of their money trail will dry up eventually as a result but if they make more money for a noble cause then many of them will get on board.

A bit like how much of the corporates care for human rights and starvation in the world.

As with most development it can and will be best approached by the market and business transition.

Like with EV once they are more affordable as they will they will become more attractive and manufacturers will swing to better and cheaper product.

For those who think government and leaders in the political sphere have the answer to climate warming and cry out to them to do more I am afraid as COP 1-26 has shown they are barking up the wrong tree.

I am a strong activist for a simple problem like underquoting in the real estate industry and I cannot even get local government to implement the simple changes that will address and resolve much of it.

the people will make their own way in time and the good news is it won't be too late for the planet to fry and displace the billions predicted but as you say we won't be around to see how we evolve and navigate our way but I know that population growth is a bigger issue to climate change and too much growth to quickly for a planet that is as small as ours and population growth is correlated to man made climate change.

Why would they when your economy revolves around asset value inflation of real estate?

The house prices has nought to do with this activity in the main.

Agents in the main don't care about final price as the extra work required to get a few dollars more commission doesn't warrant the need to get the next listing restricted by the extra work required.

For the last 30 years much of Melbourne and Sydney real estate has sold itself all the agent needs is the listing.

it is true that some houses end up selling for lower than they should but that is largely dependant n the agents skill or lack of it as they are by "law" given to obtain best possible price.

in reality much of our market is driven by public auctions and they only obtain a tad more than the second highest bid on the day once declared on the market which is often not at the highest bidders highest offer affordable.

Our economy is very heavily dependant on exports such as coal and iron ore but you are correct when you talk about real estate much of which is not bought by overseas nationals particularly commercial and retail.

You have some of the biggest bubbles in housing in the world, particularly Sydney.

What rationale is there for underlisting other than to drum up interest and a bidding war?

Yes I know about the mineral exports, which means that the China foreign policy tussling will only go so far.

Apparently the carbon footprint for COP26 was almost double that of the most recent event in Spain. If they can't even decrease that each time then what hope do we have in other areas?

Good point. Delegates staying in Edinburgh and being transported back across.

Would make much more sense to have hosted it in one city like London that has all the infrastructure and no need for connecting domestic flights.

Underquoting is illegal in fact a crime in this country and we are one of the few in the world who publicly auction residential property.

it creates a false impression that a property can be purchased for much less than the vendor wants , expects and will get and also in many cases wastes buyers time and money ( building inspections , paying for an report and an advocate ) so it impacts on both buyer and seller.

the rationale is for the agent to get more potential buyers and sellers of other homes to come to the one place at the one time which is why for most agencies they have up to 10 agents at the same auction sometimes more depending on the size of the agency.

Let the mountain come to mohammed as they say Fode rather the other more tedious and time consuming way.

Auctions great for agents not so great for their clients and buyers outside as I mentioned often the agent to shorten the auction will coax the seller to place the property for sale and then obtain a 1000 more than the second highest bidder and not have to negotiate a higher amount from the highest bidder by passing it in partly because its not worth their while and they don't want to underquote to market even more which is also against the law.

Has little to do with a bidding war Fode but I appreciate your interest in the matter albeit a diversion from cop I suppose so my apologies.

if you want to make good money quickly become a real estate agent when the market is rising not sure how easy it is to obtain a licence in the UK , in OZ you only need to know basic algebra with the help of a calculator or iphone.

ie what is 2 per cent of 200k.

Targets that will be fudged and not met anyhow as per usual. The public are either very stupid or very apathetic.

I'm going for a large dose of both.

All very predictable.
