I think you'd need to justify the "same quarters" claim.I am somewhat confused about the criticism raised against the original suggestion that they would construct new railways and the response was why not just spend the money improving existing lines.
Surprising that now that seems to be what is being suggested is met with criticism from the same quarters.
Absolutely clear.I think you'd need to justify the "same quarters" claim.
I take it this is just another attempt to say Boris isn't a liar.
What have you got up your sleeve for when HS2 gets binned off completely once enough donors have made enough profit?Absolutely clear.
Those who I read saying that they should improve current infrastructure instead of new lines now criticising a backtrack to do just that instead of new lines.
Jog on pal
Name someone. Quote someone.Absolutely clear.

I thought was the idea?Well who saw that coming...?
Run it as far as Birmingham so every fucker who can't afford to live and work there gets a quick commute.
Forgot to add they didn't want to run it any further than that anyway. Just create a rich mans rail link to London.I thought was the idea?
Not sure if you’re serious but if you are, canal tunnels are basically the width of one narrow boat plus some clearance. Even if it was practical to block/divert the canal you’d have to massively enlarge the tunnel to use it for trainsThere are two Standedge tunnels on the main route between Manchester and Leeds, via Diggle and Marsden. One rail and one canal.
I'd fuck off the barges, let them do the more scenic Leeds/Liverpool route that goes north, and convert the Standedge canal tunnel to rail.
Simple.
Get the barge to Leeds ? Might be faster in the long run.Not sure if you’re serious but if you are, canal tunnels are basically the width of one narrow boat plus some clearance. Even if it was practical to block/divert the canal you’d have to massively enlarge the tunnel to use it for trains

They'd never meet up if Johnson, Grayling, Schapps and Raab were planning the routes. The railroads in the USA would start at both ends and meet in the middle, should be the policy here to avoid the usual shafting.
Ah. Balls. Not sure if you’re serious but if you are, canal tunnels are basically the width of one narrow boat plus some clearance. Even if it was practical to block/divert the canal you’d have to massively enlarge the tunnel to use it for trains
probably herds of whippets in flat capsAh. Balls.
I'm a layman. Forgive my ignorance.
So what was the original upgrade plan?
How about a monorail over the top?
-)
There are three railway tunnels (the original single track tunnels, disused, and the double track). Having legged a canal boat through Standedge, I can't imagine converting it would be any cheaper than boring a new tunnel. There are two Standedge tunnels on the main route between Manchester and Leeds, via Diggle and Marsden. One rail and one canal.
