yep and our book value on raz i believe the way the accounting works would be nil now so if we sold him for say £50m as part of the deal it would be put in at £50m profit on the books? that correct?

I wouldn't expect it to be a £75m offer, more to the value of. Can only see it if Sterling is valued both ends at £50m and City maybe stumping up an extra £25m.

In all but name, Sterling is no longer a long-term tangible asset because of the contract issue, so his value has to be agreed at both ends, which is why these deals are always rare.

The thing that will work in our favour (and something that shocked me this morning) is that Sterling is still only 26.

His value has weakened because of recent (2+ years IMO) form and contract situation but we'd be right to figure his value out based on what we got for Sane.

No idea what FDJ is valued at but they got him for £65m in 2019 when his stock was high.

The £75m figure from the media today feels plucked out of nowhere because, like you said, the Sterling valuation will only be known by us/Barca. Both clubs can exaggerate whichever fee they want to fit the narrative if it does happen, though.

Barca are in such a mess, they are just spit-balling out suggestions and ideas, hoping something will stick.

Barca's new executive are treading water and know City are one of the very few clubs who can throw them a lifebelt, coupled with trying to finesse a better relationship, long-term.

For that reason, City hold a lot of negotiating power. If we are smart, Barca can be to us, what Dortmund are these days to Bayern.

Our bitch, forever reminding them of the day we bailed them out of the financial mire.

They are that much in mess would they take say 75m now so a cash injection for the club for players! They take Sterling on loan for the remainder on his contract but with a commitment of purchase of 50m?

I can't imagine many ideas stuck - if only they'd have been beggars when we were offering them £100m for a guy who was desperate to leave. Idiots.

I bet FDJ's name raised a few eyebrows, though, if indeed it's been mentioned. I couldn't see Pep turning his nose up at it, especially when it'd be 'helping' Barca in some way which also benefits him/us.

I don't see why we would do that, or whether we had £75m cash on the hip right now, in light of a striker remaining our ultimate priority.

It's pretty simple, if Sterling is valued at £50m, then the difference in valuation Barca place on De Jong would be the balancing payment from us.

Why hand them £75m upfront, when we can give them £20m and still get the player?

Sterling earns £300k a week, Barca would surely be better off buying rather than renting, with so little working capital.

£20m cash gives them wiggle room to do other things.

Sounds like they are also offering Lingard loan terms in Jan and joining them on a free next summer.

We weren't offering £100m for Messi. City and the player believed he could walk away for nothing.

More importantly, De Jong is likely to want this move above most others if indeed he is expendable.

I do feel like his heart isn't in it at PSG - he obviously never wanted to leave Barca...this Summer.

If we'd have got him in 2020 then he'd have been immense IMO given he wanted to leave and he was coming to work with Pep/Txiki/Soriano alongside (an albeit stricken) Aguero.

I'm sure he'll get his customary goal against us next week in a 6-1 City win.
