True enough Tim. I was specifically referring to bible-bashing Christians broadcasting to large audiences via dedicated TV channels though. We don't tend to have those people - and those TV channels - over here.
Very true mate. I do though worry, to a lesser extent, when I hear about people here giving 10% of their salaries to bible bashers and how easily they might be influenced.

Germany reports highest number of COVID deaths since February

A total of 446 deaths have been reported today - the highest daily figure since 18 February - as the country faced warnings that intensive care admissions could reach above last winter's peak.

They also have one of the lowest vaccination rates in Western Europe, could there be a link here?

The numbers below indicate the total number of doses per 100 of the population as at 25th November. Need to consider that these numbers include for double doses and boosters. The truth is the majority of people that are going to have the vaccination probably have had it and those who oppose vaccinations or cannot have vaccinations are entrenched in their position.

A country who along with France, went out of their way to sow the seeds of doubt about vaccines by making completely wacky and unfounded statements about the AZ jab, to score shallow political points.

The BMJ suggests that as of July 2021, a bit out of date I accept, but I would think the figures would show an even bigger gap, that of 40,000 admissions 84% had not been vaccinated with 13% having had one dose and 3% had had both doses!, Quite compelling numbers I'm sure you'd agree?

There's a lot of nationalism regarding vaccines in Germany too. Lots of people are refusing Moderna as they only will accept German manufactured Biontec (which is how Pfizer is referred to there).

A colleague of mine who lives in Dresden says his wife's hospital (she's a nurse) is overwhelmed with unvaccinated patients (only 55% fully vaccinated in Saxony). Germany has been very slow off the mark with boosters too.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree about the unvaccinated and their reasons for not doing so.

In the UK where we have ready access to the data it's very obviously influenced by

1) Age
2) Class
3) Ethnicity

With age being far and away the most important factor. Some people are just lazy and will let inertia take over if they are not convinced of the risk. There are a lot of families where the adults are vaccinated and older children are not.

If you want to ask questions there are two I don't know the answer too but they are much more important that the trivia that is discussed on TV and by journalists at press conferences. These are the policy of spike protein based vaccines. An A level student could figure out its weakness and suggest an alternative. Then there's the mechanism of how variants have developed. There is a pattern, or a suspected pattern and we're not addressing it. I have never read one article about either of these two topics in the popular media but they are far more significant about the development of the his epidemic than when and where we introduce restrictions. All that does is influence the rate of growth it doesn't alter anything fundamental. Most people have figured out by now that it's going to spread and you can't stop it. One month isn't going to make a difference hence the apathy is grounded in some logic.

I think the seeds of doubt are being sown by the US still not approving the AZ vaccine and we recommended not using for the under forties. Also all boosters here are Pfizer and Mordena. Going forward it is unlikely we will be using AZ in the future.

Germany and Austria are behind the curve compared to France, Spain or Italy. They had looser vaccine passport requirements and Germany has an East Germany problem with vaccine hesitancy. The issues are largely cultural.

They are on basically the same level as us. we're on 67.8 they are 67.7.

How France overtook us I'll never know. I guess the threat to not being allowed into Cafe's really worked.

Has anyone had three vaccinations of the same vaccine?

Also, any data on the efficacy of having the same vaccine three times?

I ask as I had a double dose of AZ but I also want an AZ booster for medical reasons.

Hang on, December 2020? Hardly anyone was vaccinated back then. Just checked my card and I wasn't vaccinated until mid March 2021.

My wife and I had all 3 doses of the Pfizer vaccine

I have to say that over 30 years on from unification I'm surprised there are still notable issues amongst the population in the East. I've visited several places in the old East Germany over the past few years and I can honestly say that I couldn't really tell the difference between East and West, whereas back in 1989, for example, those differences would've been stark.

I think it depends on your age, isn't the AZ vaccine still banned in the under 40's?

I'm under 40 and had the AZ vaccine before they changed the advice but I'll not be allowed AZ again even though I'd still prefer it.

Otherwise though I think you get what you're given.

I spent quite a bit of time in Leipzig around 2007-8 as my girlfriend at the time was studying there. I was pretty staggered at how different it was to Berlin. Way less people spoke English and it definitely felt a lot less "western" than Berlin. And it's only about an hours train ride away.

It may have / probably has changed now though. I haven't been there since.

AZ isn't being used for boosters. I had 2×AZ and a Moderna booster.

I am 48. Good to see I have not given others the impression I am an oldie.

I currently have Bell's Palsy. Not sure what caused it. Looking at possible causes it is most likely either Covid (my sense of smell and taste were not great for a week or so before my face started to resemble Quasimodo's) or my immune system was in overdrive (had the flu jab two weeks earlier and I take high dose Vit D and Zinc, and had both Covid jabs).

Looking at the Lancet, a report recommends considering not taking mRNA vaccines if you have had Bell's Palsy as the risk of getting it again following an mRNA vaccination is three times more likely. I then looked at the NHS website and it said some people can have three jabs of the same vaccine if it is considered the best option for that person.

I would think vaccination centres will have all three vaccinations (AZ, Pfizer and Moderna). No idea how I can ensure I get AZ or avoid a long winded discussion at the vaccination centre and then walking out with no jab. Would ask my doc but it takes three weeks to get a telephone appointment.
