Funny that I have had a cold hundreds of times and flu probably 5 or 6 times in my life. Both Corona viruses. has everyone else just had them once?

I am not sure what you are trying to say here but Sars-Cov-2 had an infection fatality rate of around 1% at the start of this epidemic. It was not a cold. Our hospitals were are times full of people struggling to breath on ventilators. It was part of the coronavirus family but that doesn't mean we treat this one in the same way as a cold.

A study in Israel warned that immunity waned after 5 months, and it began giving boosters in the summer to older people and has made available to everyone over 12 since August 29th. Irrespective of uptake there, governments across Europe have been prevaricating for months.

No idea how many times, perhaps natural immunity means that if and when you get it again, you either don't know you've had it or the symptoms are relatively mild. Obviously as with people who have had the boosters, there will always be some people who unfortunately suffer, but the vast majority who have natural immunity will be fine.

Just on points of fact

1) Most common colds are not coronaviruses. Other viruses are much more common. Only a very small fraction of common colds are caused by coronaviruses.

2) Influenza is not a coronavirus.

The "common cold" is made up of about 200 viruses that all have very similar symptoms in humans, 3 of them are Coronaviruses.

Flu is influenza.

That’s from the Health Minister who desperately didn’t want to divulge that info this morning in Sky.

And you also know that omicron has been circulating in tiny numbers for a small amount of time and that it takes weeks for it to develop into a serious infection. Scientists don't lie. They may get it wrong.

It is very quite possible that we will get daily case numbers in excess of 200,000 a day. Some people suggest a lot more. There is no evidence that omicron is any less virulent than delta so the most sensible expectation at the moment is to use the daily delta cases and daily hospital admissions as benchmark of what is likely.

I suspect that we will be OK because of the scale of vaccination and natural immunity that has built up and we are seeing that effect in South Africa however there is a great deal of uncertainty at the moment. In South Africa hospitalisations have risen very sharply in what is a younger population but not alarmingly so.

Lindelof likely has COVID right now because United are in the middle of their own outbreak.

These footballers who are collapsing - it could be the vaccine. An enlarged heart muscle is one of the side effects of Pfizer. But Aguero, John Fleck, Zielinski, possibly Lindelof - they've all tested positive for COVID as well.

We have 800 hospital admissions a day from Delta based on 50,000 reported cases a day. We know that the infection rate is going to increase significantly, and therefore the hospital admission rate will also rise sharply as it has in South Africa.

There is a wide level of uncertainty about what is coming but you can't just plan and act on the most optimistic scenario as Covid has shown throughout this epidemic. I think we are going to see a lot of mild illness but I don't know that, and I am pleased that the booster campaign is being accelerated.
