Scientists and public health officials are not in the business of tricking people. This contempt for science and conservative reaction from a significant number of people is disturbing. The evidence of the pandemic is all around you. Most families will have had members who have been seriously ill by now so why is there this continued distrust of science and medicine, when it is science and medicine that is combating this illness. I think vaccination has accelerated the development of this virus but in the face of a new strain that is multiplying very fast, if we organise boosters, we reduce our risk of developing serious illness.

It maybe that we are close to converting this virus into a cold but it is far better to do that through vaccination than wait for natural immunity to do so.

Yes. I am being conservative. We can see from the current growth rate that it's going to spike. How much so depends on what we do in regards to boosters (that may reduce its transmission rate, and there will be large changes in human behaviour).

Every strain that has developed has been associated with a wave of hospitalisation and a rise in deaths. At some point this will fade in effect as the population becomes immune. We are getting there but we want immunity from vaccination and not from infection. Infection is leading to increasingly mild illness but it's going to come in such a wave that it will find people who have lower levels of immunity.

The distrust of science is simply a symptom of hearing something you don't want to. Some people don't care how many get sick, go into hospital die etc they just don't want any restrictions, end of. They pretend they don't believe the science but the truth is they just don't care. A good few have gone full on tin foil hat in the last 48 hrs attacking scientists, media GP's all because they think "i'm alright jack"

We have a statistician on a football forum telling all the worlds scientists and experts they are wrong over a new variant of a novel decease on limited 3 week data and some morons believe him. Clueless.

We are going to Scotland on the 23rd for Christmas, she put a stop to it at the last minute last year, and looks like it might happen again
 
Booster jab day for me, brought forward a month. Anticipating a sore arm and a headache as am switching from AZ to Pfizer or Moderna, but very thankful that I get to have it a good week before Christmas.

Although it's brought about the discussion in our family about whether we'd let our kids have it, 9 and 5, and although we're very pro vaccine I think we'd have to take a much closer look here. Rumours primary schools will be asked to facilitate roll out in the early year, and I'd really want to check if there is a need vs the risks. Are there any publicly available studies as yet?

Did you hear the Welsh health minister on Sky yesterday? She said, at least twice, that Wales had 10000 covid patients in hospital with 200 in critical care.
Actual position is 286 patients in hospital with 39 on ICU!
No challenge from the interviewer and it then goes up on the sky website, so more scaremongering nonsense from the media…Ask why that is happening and you’re ‘anti science’, ‘anti-vax’ or a conspiracy nut…..

I was referring to the England isolation advice. Which would have potentially put every household in isolation due to the Omicron Tsunami. I hadn't realised a change was in place for tomorrow.

Simply because a large percentage of the population are still too stupid to follow rudimental simple rules like mask wearing indoors.
