The word from ground zero.
Brilliant, that’ll do for me
The word from ground zero.
She did say you can trust her abd even an 80 year old can expect to get a mild version of the virus. This is positive..but we cannot compare SA with UK..not yet imo ?

Omicron: Why do boosters work if two doses struggle?
The vaccines are unchanged - so why could three be the magic number against Omicron?www.bbc.co.uk
Based on the AZ effectiveness against symptomatic transmission. 0% - 10%. Pfizer was 30%. That'smy recollection of the reports I've read. Why are you assuming AZ would be worse? I remember seeing some info that AZ (adenovirus vector vaccines) actually produced more robust T-cells than the mRNA jabs and so if this is correct, we may actually have played a blinder by injecting our oldies with AZ. There isn’t enough data to make such a statement in reality other than perceiving AZ to be inferior.
(I’m under 40 but had 2 x AZ + Pfizer booster)

T-cell ‘training grounds’ behind robust immune system response seen in adenovirus vaccines | University of Oxford
Adenovirus vaccine vectors, such as the ChAdOx1 nCov-19 construct which has risen to prominence as a major vaccine for COVID-19, may generate robust long-term immune system responses, according to scientists from the Universities of Oxford and the Cantonal Hospital St.Gallen, Switzerland.www.ox.ac.uk

Moderna or Novavax after AstraZeneca jab confers high Covid immunity, study finds
Finding is good news for lower-income countries that have not yet completed their primary vaccination campaignsamp.theguardian.com
Depends on where you start from. Won't know for sure till we have 4 or 5 weeks of data due to specimen dates, superspread events and the relatively low numbers. So at the moment it's anywhere between 2.2 and 3.6 as we stand.

I am sure we will find out soon. We don't know but that's my expectation. And the other variable is time. The UK was first to vaccinate with AZ well before SA. I am aware that T cell immunity lasts longer than antibodies but still this is very depressing data. Some vaccine fans will spin it but there's now a really pressing need to get boosted.
I want to be wrong
That is brilliant but that contradicts with that study. I give up. Just hope for the best. This is what happens. Conflicting reports. Both seem good sourcesBrilliant, that’ll do for me
That's not the only difference, our vaccination rate is significantly higher as well. The only difference to our country and South Africa is the age group in South Africa they don’t have the millions of over 75’s as we do until we get the stats from this country we don’t know how severe it will be.
Merry fucking ChristmasThe chief medical officer of Moderna, Dr Paul Burton, is next to be questioned by the committee.
He said he does not believe Omicron is a milder or less severe variant of COVID-19 and warned that with both Omicron and Delta circulating people could become co-infected.
He said: "Individuals will become co-infected which gives the opportunity for these viruses to evolve and mutate which is a concerning and worrying situation.
"I think if we could get to a situation with a milder virus that would be a good thing, but I don't think that will occur in the near future.

That sounds like what I was quoting in the middle of last night when I was half asleep. The evidence on Omicron coming out of South Africa continues to look encouraging.
The head of the South African Medical Association has just said the variant still seems to be causing milder symptoms than the previously dominant Delta virus.
Dr Angelique Coetzee told the Science and Technology Committee that even hospitalised patients needed care for half as long – and were less likely to need oxygen.
A government minister said “yes”.…So to summarise, are we back to plan A or still cancelling football and Xmas?
