Alexandole Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

Maybe so, but expect a long drawn out fight. The man has no sense of self-awareness, decency, humanity or morality. There are no depths he won't stoop to in order to cling on to power.

Power does give him immunity and protection from scrutiny - he could be in trouble as just a mere back bencher

The final nail about to be hammered home in North Shrophshire tonight - a massively reduced majority or a defeat in the by-election and the 1922 Committee mailbox will be overflowing

And more importantly there is no good alternative.

look at the front runners:

Sunak
Truss
Gove
Javid

Are working class brexit types going to take to any of this lot? Johnson's clown act papers over the fact he is an incompetent posh boy who doesnt care about anything beyond himself. None of these can play that trick. Sunak is currently on a working trip to California where he happens to own a beach front property. One of 10+ properties he owns. Truss is thick as mince and used to be a remainer. Gove is a wierdo. Javid is miserable. Back bench tories are looking at this and thinking how bad May did against Corbyn. Labour are in far better shape now than when May rolled the dice. The tories without Brexit and a clown to front it are in real trouble.

They all might want the job but if you are a Tory MP that won your seat on the back of the brexit vote and having lost a lot of the middle class white collar support do you you think your chances of keeping your cushy job improve with any of this lot.

Biggest danger for labour in the next ge is that starmers main selling point is that he isn't Boris. Get rid of Boris and put one of the above in (with a fairly cynical rebranding of the Tories I'm sure) and Starmer will have to sell a clear vision rather than just being least worst in order to win.

This may all be true but it doesn’t alter the fact that there is a long, long way to go to the next General Election and with an 80 seat majority this Nasty Party can do what it likes - AND IT WILL.

Over 62% of the vote at the last GE and a majority of nearly 23k - if there is a huge reduction in that or please God a loss there will be squeaking rings in the Tory Party tonight and Johnson will be gone

I am no Tory but out of that list, it would have to be Javid. All other options are much worse.

Thats like having to pick the best player out of the worst back line/batting line up you have ever seen - the real question will end up boiling down to do you want Phil the Face playing sweeper and the captains armband when they finally get rid of Ian Ure.........
