You're not wrong. First and second jabs on the same day, already push that figure over 900k !Tremendous figures. A million a day within reach
I thought we'd struggle to get anywhere near a million a day but to get to this level so quickly is amazing. I reckon by mid January everyone who is eligible and wants one will have been jabbed.Above 861,000 whacked today. On a school day too.
Yesterday. My mistake.
The Government has become fixated on case numbers (scary as they are) instead of the infection fatality and hospitalisation rates. It is clear that the vast majority of people suffer relatively minor illness (that was also the case with Alpha and Delta variants). But the isolation rules being brought in will increase the existing staff crisis in the NHS.Absolutely my experience too and I’m a sample of 5 people I know infected.
By the time Johnson has decided which restrictions he wants to introduce, Omicron will have passed through.I take it once we've boosted all over 18s who take up the jab the restrictions will be lifted? Is that the plan..
Stick with me, mate. Everything I post is beer reviewed.I thought we'd struggle to get anywhere near a million a day but to get to this level so quickly is amazing. I reckon by mid January everyone who is eligible and wants one will have been jabbed.
This is a good point. The rate of transmission is so high at present that it will be through the whole country in a few weeks at which point the population who are not seriously affected will have huge immunity from jabs and getting Covid. They must have modelling which shows the precise impact on hospital beds. Why are they not sharing this?By the time Johnson has decided which restrictions he wants to introduce, Omicron will have passed through.
It’s because the case numbers are the best indication of the number of hospitalisation we will be facing in 2-3 weeks. The Government has become fixated on case numbers (scary as they are) instead of the infection fatality and hospitalisation rates.

Agreed. But something doesn't seem to add up. The experts here must have some details of how it will impact the UK. They know precise data for South Africa and can compare the difference between Delta and Omicron in South Africa (where hospitalisations are 10 times lower) The demographics are different in South Africa but they share with us a population with high immunity due to vaccination and natural infection. It’s because the case numbers are the best indication of the number of hospitalisation we will be facing in 2-3 weeks.
Everybody on both sides of the argument - most cases are mild vs we could be looking at 1000s of deaths - are guessing at the moment.
The truth is people don’t seem to know how thousands of new cases will play out in the middle of a European winter.
I guess we’ll find out sometime around 5th January.Agreed. But something doesn't seem to add up. The experts here must have some details of how it will impact the UK. I understand they are worried that a large number of infections in a short period could lead to a lot of people in hospital ( a low percentage of a very big number of cases). But they should know more detail by now. The press conferences have been vague and quite dismissive (especially Chris Whitty). What are they holding back?
Doubt itI take it once we've boosted all over 18s who take up the jab the restrictions will be lifted? Is that the plan..

wouldnt think so, travel restrictions are going to be here for a long long time as parts/most of the world are not running level with us, cant see the end of masks and covid passports either even if this strain is not severe they will keep them going for the expected new strain, as for your jabs well thats something were all going to have to decide, if your happy having this once a year or once every 6 months thats fine, me i wont be having another jab,the worlds economy is at breaking point, the Fed Reserve have basicaly been proping things up much the same throughout the world and it has to collapse at some point and Covid 19 is the perfect reason for a government to blame and get off the hook, were in a real mess as things stand now even if this virus disapeared overnightI take it once we've boosted all over 18s who take up the jab the restrictions will be lifted? German experts are quite concerned. We know our higher median age demographics and about 3m unvaccinated over 60 are a problem.I guess we’ll find out sometime around 5th January.
