Trump pulling in favours from supreme court to stop Jan 6 committee getting evidence. Why am I shocked?
 
Does anyone with a deep knowledge of US politics have any idea how the US Supreme Court are likely to handle this? I have a horrid feeling they are going to delay this until the Scum get the majority. Trump has all sorts of shit on Kavanagh and Corey Barret is in his pocket. Dictatorship on its way if he isn't finally dealt with.

Pretty much what I expect to play out.

The Dems need to show some leadership and balls. Otherwise the whole world will be gaslighted in thinking Jan 6 never happened.
 
Meanwhile I am pleased to see that trial after trial is sending 6th Jan rioters to Jail. Turns out their idol Trump won't help them or at least didn't when he had the chance and their pathetic defence tactics hold zero weight in court
 
Slightly old news : MTGs personal Twitter account permanently suspended due to repeated warnings (5) about publishing covid conspiracy lies.
Whilst it’s good that the complete fruitcake’s lying views have been stopped from reaching a wider audience, it’s just shifted the fruitcake problem to a lesser viewed audience of Gab/parler/gettrr/telegram - and in doing so, amplified the echo-chamber dog-whistling. So, we’ll see less of her here/mainstream , but her followers will still sip from the cup of crap.

in other news, is it time for ‘US politics 2022’ thread?

Every court so far have said there he should turn over the evidence. The only reason the DC court of appeal didn't instruct him to do it immediately was so that he could seek to appeal to the SC.

The rulings thus far have been pretty straight forward and in line with the law as it stands. Normally I would expect the SC to just rubber stamp the ruling of the DC court of appeal... but this is Trump, and these are not normal times.

This is going to be a VERY significant ruling either way.

Republican lawmakers have been packing the state legislative bodies with people who are not against subverting the legitimate result of a democratic process because they believe the big lie.

There's more than a chance that the votes will be ignored in states such as Georgia, Florida and Texas at the next election.
