Covid and travel discussion

Just back from Florida, less hassle than when we went to Spain in the summer.
LFT 2 days before flying, US vaccine verification form, Antigen test in the US 2days before returning and test at MAN airport on arrival at 9am ,results back at 4.30pm through Randox.Only complaint was the cost of the US Antigen test $100 each but that might due to where we were staying.

Still hopeful of going to Japan in September! Hopefully, the Japanese will lift the travel restrictions soon.

I had a brief meeting recently with a sales rep for Wendy WU Tours (specialists for Asia if unfamiliar with the name) and they seem to think Japan, along with China, will be ready to accept tourists again from around June 2022.

This discussion was just before Omicron hit so the goalposts may well have moved (backwards or forwards), and although they are unlikely to know too much more than the average person on the street, they will have good on the ground contacts over in Asia.

With China going back to very strict lockdowns in some areas, it's hard to see them accepting tourists in just 6 months, but I think there is a chance with Japan.

Half the battle with these long haul countries is getting them to open their borders, and the other half is to actually accept tourists without ridiculous hurdles or policies.
Australia opening their borders but wanting arrivals to isolate for the first 7 days in a hotel/home isn't particularly conjunctive with a holiday itinerary, as an example.

I really hope so mate!

I wouldn't go even if the borders were open if we had to isolate for 7 days or whatever, there would be no point in that, would they?

We still have 9 months until the date anyway so hopefully the world will be in a better place by then

Pre-departure and Day 2 PCRs to be scrapped and replaced with just a Day 2 antigen test.

Common sense prevails and hopefully a step toward seeing the back of these stupid requirements totally.

Hire car prices are ridiculous high at the moment due to the fact the hire companies had to get rid of a high percentage of their stock during the pandemic to
survive. So there’s less cars and high demand now. Only tip I can give you is book in the UK with someone like Discover cars and do it now ,on the a free cancellation basis .Then check again nearer the time to see if they’ve reduced at all.

The no pre departure tests are good news as it's always a worry you'll go on holiday and then get trapped there if you have symptoms. I'm on holiday at the moment so it's a relief, not to mention less cost. The government has to stop flip flopping on this though. You go on holiday, no departure test, before you return they reimpose it. If a country is okay to travel to and everyone is double/triple jabbed then leave it as it is. We are constantly told we have to learn to live with this so let's do it
