Building a Computer?

I think Alan Turing beat you to it ;-)
:-)

My water-cooled, all-white, brass-tubed mega-build is gonna kick ass over any Turing machine!
===
I'm a computer programmer by profession - with a love for games such as Civ4. Once my new rig is up and running - I might take a stab at an AI-driven program to play Civ4 - just for fun.

My old rig is circa 2012 or so. Moore's law is dead - and remarkably my system has held up quite well over the ages.

But it is long-in-the tooth and recently I spent a huge amount of time planning my new system.

I decided to go for a water-cooled system for the aesthetics. I like white cases and components so I decided to purchase white components wherever possible. And I decided to go mostly top-of-the-line since I don't plan on building another system for a decade or so.

Anyhow, this is what I eventually went with:

Case: Lian Li Dynamic XL - https://lian-li.com/product/pc-o11d-rog/

CPU: Intel Core i9-12900K - https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...-30m-cache-up-to-5-20-ghz/specifications.html

Motherboard: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z690 FORMULA - https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-z690-formula-model/

Graphics Card: ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 24G White - https://rog.asus.com/graphics-cards/graphics-cards/rog-strix/rog-strix-rtx3090-24g-white-model/

RAM: - 2x Trident Z5 RGB DDR5‑6000 MHz CL 36 2x16 metalic silver rgb - https://www.gskill.com/product/165/374/1636005425/F5-6000U3636E16GX2-TZ5RSF5-6000U3636E16GA2-TZ5RS

SSDs: https://shop.kingston.com/products/kc3000-pcie-4-0-nvme-m-2-ssd?variant=41041994940608
1 2GB for the OS
1 4GB for fast access to applications

I have a lot of network-attached storage so I'll probably just go with the above

Power supply: Corsair Axi Series AX1600i - https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categ...upply-Units/axi-series-config/p/CP-9020087-NA

Massive overkill - probably 1000 watts suffice. But I was put off by numerous posts against multiple vendors about the lack of quality in their power supplies. I decided to go with Corsair's top-of-the-line - hopefully this will withstand years of use.

Water blocks - various EKWB components

Radiators - Corsair 360mm

Fans - Corsair QL Series x9
=======================================
Most of my components have arrived and I'll begin putting together the system in about a week.

I'm planning on using Bitspower 16mm OD - brass! - white tubing to connect the water-cooled components along with white Bitspower fittings.

I'll post later on once the build is complete.
Whats the cost of the components mate.

Agree.

If you try to purchase a high end graphics card you'll be paying way beyond MSRP due to bitcoin miners grabbing up all stock. Supposedly the bitcoin mining market might undergo a huge change later this year as mining companies adopt new policies making GPU mining obsolete - but who knows?

I decided to bite the bullet and overpay for my 3090 card.
Thought that change had already happened, a good friend of mine ditched all his cards just before christmas and told me mining was a thing of the past...I'm not in the know so wouldn't know one way or the other, he is clued up though and doesn't seem a bullshitter

Cheers.

All components are now in the mail. The system is going to be a nearly-all white, water cooled RGB lit rig and will hopefully look really nice. I'll post pictures once it's fully assembled.

Be interesting to hear how you go about building the water cooling system mate.

Way, way too much. I'm retired and can afford to indulge a bit. The stupid graphics card was 3,500 US dollars (2,560 GBP). I built my entire 2012 system for less.

Damn that's expensive. When the equivalent card (GTX 1080 TI) for it's time came out in early 2017 it sold for £700.

I really hope mining becomes significantly less popular soon so graphics cards can at least go back to their RRP prices.

As is yours and whilst I’m confident and happy to build just about anything, water cooling systems are about the only thing I won’t tackle lol.

I really should give it a go though as I want to go full size case and it might be the time to give it a go.
I fried a X570 Aorus extreme and a 3950x on Thursday being an idiot.
my 3 x 3090 FE’s survived (one where the leak came from) and the rest of my components though.

I'm not even a fan of an AIO to be honest as a leak from that and bang, your system is fried but I'm even less of a fan of a big arse air cooler so I go with one.
