Neil Young demands Spotify remove his music.

Don't care how many great goals he scored for city in the 60's. I'd be just as annoyed if buzzer or Franny started trying to dictate Spotify content.
He’s not trying to dictate Spotify’s content. He said that he doesn’t want his music on the platform that has the misinformation of the like of Rogan, so he’s taking his music off Spotify.

It’s not like he’s saying “cancel Rogan or I’ll leave”, he’s saying “you have Rogan, and can continue to have his misinformation if you want, so I’m leaving”.

Exactly he isn't stopping anyone from listening to Rogan, just doesn't want to be on the same.platform promting him, his fans won't be losing out as he is on amazon, appel, youtube etc.

Anyone sighting cancel culture or other crap is talking bollocks.

Joe Rogan has a wide variety of very interesting guests on his podcast. I don't listen for him, I listen to his guests, I much prefer 2-3 hour discussions vs 3 minute soundbites on the news. In the last 2 weeks, Josh Szeps had a good rebuttal to some of his COVID opinions on a recent episode, which adds balance to the debate. His episode with General H.R Mcmaster educated me on the history of the middle East, Oliver Stone had a fascinating discussion with Joe over his new JFK documentary. We shouldn't be cancelling everything that has a different outlook on life, as time proves the truth is usually somewhere in the middle of those shouting loudest on both sides.
No one’s cancelling him — NY doesn’t want to share a platform with him, that’s all.

Re Rogan if you don’t use your platform for good at the most critical time it’s needed (because either you’re a moron or scared of alienating your audience), you’re a ****. The fact that people are able to put up with cuntishness because they get something else out of it also is what enables cunts to continue being cunts and get uber-rich being so.

Won't Rogan be on some of those platforms too (eg YT)?

I listen to the JRE podcast now and again depending who the guest is. I don't listen to it for Rogan but to hear what the guest has to say. If you are looking to him for medical advice then you are a bell end. I think most people can listen to his podcast without blindly following his opinion on vaccines.

But he's happy to be on the same streaming platform (Apple Music) with Gary Glitter, R Kelly and Ian Watkins? Is misinformation worse than pedophilia? How far does he go?

I don’t know what the outcome of all of this will be, but Joe Rogan is a thundercunt — a category 5 hurricane of cuntishness — and if ill befalls him I will find it hard to empathize.

Spotify paid $100m for Rogan's podcast. The result is Neil Young won't be on Spotify.

If Neil is worth anything around $100m to them, then it’s job done as far as Mr. Young is concerned.
Fair play to him I say. I like his music but he’s a weird dude who has a history of being contrary when it comes to musical rights.

Joe Rogan has a wide variety of very interesting guests on his podcast.... His episode with General H.R Mcmaster educated me on the history of the middle East,

This very nicely sums up the problem with Joe Rogan and his listeners.

Joe Rogan isn't qualified to have a debate about the history of the middle east, and HR Mcmaster has an infamously one-sided and American perspective on the region.

That's not an informed or informative debate. It's a person with 1 opinion giving it to someone who doesn't know anything, who doesn't know if he's getting lied to, or bullshitted, or being the dumb host of some fringe conspiracy theories and damaging misinformation.

A proper, educational discussion would take the form of Radio 4's In Our Time.

There you have Melvyn Bragg, a guy with a 50 year career in non-fiction broadcasting who spends weeks researching each topic, and then 3 different experts, with differing opinions are on a panel and they have an hour long discussion about something.

That's serious discussion of big topics. Not a second rate comedian staring blankly at someone while they reel off their thesis and trying to bring every single subject back to psychedelic drugs or memes.

Being gormless and "asking questions" doesn't make you neutral. You have to know a topic to regulate and challenge your "interesting guests" when they try and misrepresent things. You have to know which questions to ask, and when.

I'd be surprised if Neil Young was worth $10m to them.

Ian Watkins/Lostprophets music has been removed from Spotify for years.

R Kelly's music was removed, then brought back but removed from all playlists and they introduced a mute function to block him. So you can search him out if you want but you really have to want to.

Haven’t a clue, but I know Old Neil only gets 0.0047 cents (euro) per play of a song.

Well he gets 6,000,000 monthly listens. So €30,000 a month.

But the question for Spotify is how many people would actually cancel their subscription because of him leaving? It would have to be tens of millions to make up for the money spent on JRE and the cost of his fans all quitting (which they would do) if they choose Young.

That’s b how much Neil gets out of it but doesn’t really tell how much those subscriptions are worth to Spotify. Like you say who will cancel their subscriptions on the foot of this.

So that's accounted for my monthly NY usage but what about the rest of his listeners............? ;-)

Joe Rogan is also a stupid ****.

That's not cancelling him either.
