The South American player of the year probably doesn't get sold for peanuts.

But here we are.
so you are going to contradict south american football officials and claim he is not that the South American player of the year? who should we believe I wonder

I'd rather trust Sam who has no agenda at all than the president of River Plate who just wants to look like he's made a smart business move. If this lad was as good as we all think (when none of us had even heard of him a week ago) then why are we still unsure if he'll join the first team in the summer? If he's not good enough at 22 to be a concrete part of Pep's plans then when is he ever going to be good enough?

Higher transfer fee because british tax.

Again why you compare Patrick Roberts an unproven youngter signing back then to Julian Alveres a proven south american best player ?
I'm not comparing them as players, I'm saying that paying a proper transfer fee for a youngster who isn't joining the first team right away isn't indicative of them joining the first team further down the line.

I didn't say he wasn't the South American player of the year, I'll just be surprised if he ends up being a first-team regular at City. Or even a regular face round the dressing room tbh.

I'm not saying he won't ever play for City, this just sounds like a CFG signing from the way the people involved are talking about it. And I think it's more likely we see him sold for £20-30m in three years after a few loan moves in Spain.

Multiple report have been said that he will join first team after his loan deal expired. I trust this report more than some guy opinion from BM.

"Some guy from BM". Sam Lee is probably the most informed City reporter out there.

And besides, "multiple reports" said the same thing about Patrick Roberts, who actually did go on to make a grand total of three sub appearances for City. So, erm, I guess he proved me wrong! And the same thing was said about Claudio Gomes, Marlos Moreno, Gai Assulin, John Guidetti, Aaron Mooy, Bruno Zuculini, Aleix Garcia, Geronimo Rulli, Pablo Mari, Rabbi Matondo...

Sounds like good business to me rather than signing a player to be shipped out to a CFG associate club.
Yep, makes good business sense. We buy him for £14m, loan him out a couple of times, raise his value to about £25m, ship him off to Celta Vigo in 2024 and Bob's yer uncle.

Ha, how many bases does that no nothing cover
He paints a pretty clear picture, that some people at City think Alvarez is in our first team plans for next season, while some other people at City clearly don't. The fact that the latter camp even exists is a sign that his future at City isn't as cut and dry as some people on here would have you believe. If we're signing a 22 year old and still can't make our minds up as to whether he's good enough for the first team, why are we bothering? The answer is that he'll be worth a tidy extra £10-15m to us in a couple of years.
