Spurs (H) - Post-Match Thread

I luv Dias and think he will be our captain for years, but he's not playing at the same level he was last season.

The reasons can be debated, he needs a rest as he's played too much football? prefers to play on the left side? doesn't suit playing with Laporte?
But he was bought as a right sided CH and at the time the consensus was that he was brought in to play alongside Laporte.

I know Laporte is everybody's scapegoat on here, but he has been part of the meanest defence in the league this season and anyone who thinks it was his fault yesterday needs to watch the game again. He was the least of the problems.
he is as quick as margaret rutherford. { only people of a certain age will know this }

We average 68 percent possession, Burnley for example average 39 percent. To flip it the opposition have the ball 32 percent against us and (almost twice) 61 percent against Burnley. We have let in 17 goals and Burnley 29. Therefore we let in (17/32) 0.53 goals for every percent the opposition attack us. Burnley only let in (29/61) 0.47. So Burnley have a better defence based on the logic we often have the ball…… or.. it isn’t as simple as stats…..
that's an absolutely insane way to analyze defending. If we have more possession, by definition we defend *better*, because,

and i know it'll shock you

being able to keep the ball IS defending.

in fact it's shocking that after 6 years of pep we still have to explain this

Book 7th of May in your diary when they play the dippers. Son will barely touch the ball and you wont realise Kane is playing til he is subbed. They only seem to be world class when they play us
Yeah because dippers take son and kane out of the match and spurs have nothing more to offer,
while we invite them and even allow Kyle to play high up even if we exactly know he produces exactly nowt up front.

Kyle should focus on Son and nothing else. 2 CBs care for Kane.
It's not rocket science.
And ffs floor them outside the box and take the booking!

Fucking horrible fuckers Spurs fans

Whoever thought that they should be included in a European Super league

5.30 kick off means more drinking and then the Welsh police are in attendance

wondered where I was yesterday

As for the game why doesn’t anyone pick up there most dangerous player who wants to prove a point

They look world beaters agains the shambolic resistance we offered up yesterday, but switch 'Arry and Son for Foden 'n Sterling, and I think the Spurs defence would have rendered them as toothless as our fellahs.
Just a bad day all round. We’ve only shipped 14 goals before yesterday. We haven’t gone shit overnight. Just up against two world class strikers.

I took a day to cool off and I’m still steaming with that performance, I could spit nails. Always have to do things the hard way. 2+ goal difference, so expecting the worst on Wednesday with Leeds.

Spurs…. Really? Unbelievable…

Leeds losing after 2-2 really irritates me too.
One of the worst weekends results wise…
A shitter of a weekend, plus this bloody awful weather.

When we have a bad weekend, we seem to always have a proper shitter of a weekend

Never anything in between

Fortunately they're few and far between

If I'm going to write anything I always try to wait until the day after, things generally look slightly different when the emotion isn't there. I can't really complain too much about our team selection and I thought, while we weren't at our best, we actually played some decent stuff....going forward. Our defence, however, had a collective day to forget. We seemed wide open on the flanks and didn't pick up a late running Kane twice for his goals. A little bemused that Sterling got hooked as there were others who I thought were well below par. Gundogan played well though. Thought Spurs were set up very well to do exactly what they did...although we gave them a helping hand....and I guess Utd and Liverpool will try to play the same way. So we'd better learn from this. Yeah pissed off at the result and hopefully it focuses a few minds. Still twists and turns to come and it's still in our hands....which I guess I would take at this point in the season. I've no desire to read the previous 135 or 136 pages.....we will lose games, it happens, just keep your trust in this team and manager to go and put it right.
Have to be honest, I can’t normally be arsed reading single paragraphs that long, but I stuck with it, and I agree with you.

To be honest saw that result coming! Last couple of matches our defence as been opened up a bit to easily! Fortunately it's not cost us!
But better teams will soon pick this up!

A good case for fielding a non-midget forward, who-ever that may be, or, ffs,
stop with the aerial crosses. The game followed previous mid-week euro cup games, a slightly sub-standard performance. At no stage were we outplayed, spuds exploited our false number two plan, the run-of-the-ball lottery was not kind to City. Both sides misplaced simple passes, we didn't cope well when they made the odd surge from midfield. All seemed a bit below par.
The way to get over it is to remember one of life's lessons. Shit happens.....
...Just the depth varies

The debate was specifically about performance of a centre back. However… your response is illogical. If you have a corner or you play a through ball to your forward you are not defending. What I think you are clumsily trying to say is controlling the ball reduces the likelihood of being attacked which is clearly true That doesn’t mean you are better at physically defending when you are actually being attacked though.

Tell me about it

As much as both players are great kdb and gudongan just don't work together imo. Also don't think we pass the ball any worse while pep is here. A weekend to forgot hoping for a big response at everton

I also continue to believe Dias is being made to look completely ordinary by playing on the right of the pairing because Laporte is starting ahead of Stones.

It makes so much difference on having build up out on both sides.

I regularly get hammered for it, but De Bruyne is more of a liability when we are parked on the edge of the opponents' 18 yard box.

Would like to see Gundo get a run in the false nine.
Agree about De Bruyne….think when he plays, it’s to the detriment of Bernardo and sometimes Gundo who are moved from their best positions…great though he can be.
I’m not sure he should always be in our best 11.
Similar to Cancelo….on top form they are world class…but short of that they are both the chief culprits for giving the ball away that leave us exposed to the breakaway.
