Russian invasion of Ukraine

It's not like I'm owed any of it, Im just saying politically it might be harder to get through than we hoped.

It’s an incredibly tough decision because it hurts our business very hard as well

I think it’s a pain we are going to have to bare though.

Yeah, I'm sure that would never have happened back in the day.

Although didn't 13 million of the 25 million eligible for the Vietnam draft defer it, and a million criminally evade it?

*Trump likes this post.

Funnily enough, North Vietnamese elite also dodged the draft.

Guess where they went to live it up?

Yep, you guessed it... Moscow.

A few months after the Russians invaded Hungary in 1956 a lad called Istvan turned up in my class at junior school, a refugee. Same first name as the famous Hungarian referee Istvan Zsolt. He spoke no English but he learned fast and became a good pal, played rugby league and went trainspotting together. His father had been a professor in Budapest, his mother a doctor, then in England dad worked on the buses for Lancashire Utd & the mother did cleaning jobs, they just wanted to give the kid a life where he'd be free and not live in fear. Sadly there will be a lot more like them fleeing out of Kiev in the next few weeks, hope they find safety and a good home.

For as long as I can remember we have had MAD theory.
It is entirely plausible a WW3 could occur without use of Nuclear Weapons. There is no guarantee either way.
The big “what if” is if either side is on the verge of a defeat. Then we could see MAD.
Whether any human in this planet is willing to risk is another matter. Any legacy, Motherland or Western Democracy becomes utterly irrelevant.
The concept of MAD fails if the individual in charge of the red button actually is mad.

Tell that to the 100k demo in Chicago who protested again the Vietnam War.

Police baton charged the lot of 'em!

The uprising would have to be massive and it would be bloody, which doesn't make it very likely; doesn't mean it's not what is really needed.

Let's see if sanctions are tough enough, maintained and do anything to turn the Russian people on their leader.

Half our army would be spewing up all day because they’re too fat and unfit to do the basic training, the other half would be arguing all day with their senior officers because they can’t take orders and they shouldn’t have to do something if they don’t want to.
Surely if the world owes them nothing, then that by definition suggests their country doesn’t either?

Cutting Russia out of SWIFT might be quite difficult as according to BBC news earlier companies in France, Germany and the US are all owed over $25Billion by Russian organisations and if you cut them off from SWIFT that money's not coming back.
Pffft

we spent 4 times that on furlough and test and trace!!!

A lot of their kids are now British citizens, been born here?
The British citizens can stay.

But they have to prove how they legitimately got every single penny in their bank account and convince the government it didn’t come from criminal means or the Russian State.

And it will all be frozen until that’s resolved…

That’s less than one failed track and trace program.

Why do I have to leave my phone in locker room.

I believe he shouldn’t have either felt the need nor had the option to do this to the Ukraine. But that’s in the past, I’ve formed my opinion and voiced it.

NATO aren’t going to do anything are they… other than defend NATO countries, Putin isn’t going to do declare war on NATO, it’s suicide. He might go into Georgia and other former soviet (non NATO) countries if they express a desire to join NATO though.
I think Georgia or whoever else might keep their desires to themselves after this, which I'm sure is part of the plan.

I just don't see it mate, this power play from Putin will be from a position of absolute strength.

He's betting it all on red and that makes it a scary prospect.

When I listen to that Putin interview, I get nothing back apart from someone who is willing to take everyone down with him.

Puts the faux outrage from the opposition about cheese and wine in perspective...
Completely knocks it on the head actually.

Starmer at PMQs: "Now enough of this Russian invasion and threat of WW3 nonsense, can we get back to the serious question of whether the PM had the cheese and pickle or the ham and gherkin".

I don't think so.
