Doubt it has the capacity to even do that. Ukraine is a large country of 45 million people, the majority of which will be hostile.

Current strength of Ukrainian armed forces is around 200k and it has a large military and industrial complex. The Russians have superior forces in total, but those currently committed are probably not enough to overrun and subdue the entire country.

Equally, I could be wrong, but that is the thing about military conflict, you are in control until the fighting starts and then everything invariably goes to shit.

Also the Ukrainians are fighting for something, the average Russian soldier not so much and that in the long run counts.

I donn't know, it depends on how big the appetite is for the average Ukrainian is to keep fighting after they have been toppled.

If Russia promises them peace and a level of 'normality' I cannot see it going on.

The Russian military outnumbers them by about 10 to 1.
