Russian invasion of Ukraine

Well 2 hours ago President Selenskyj called all Europeans with combat experience to come to Ukraine and help defending freedom.
I'm 62 but that call makes me want to do something to help. A Ukrainian woman just on 5live put out a similar plea for help, called on British people to make our government listen and to do something. She's a teacher and has left Kiev with her kids, says she will leave them with grandparents and go back and take up arms, fucking inspiring!

Going off the breaking news about offering to meet Ukrainian officials, does it suggest it ain’t going the way Putin wanted or was this what he wanted all along, flex his muscles, pull back and try and get some sort of deal. So he shows the world and his people he can do what he wants?

Be surprised at Lenovo isn't it a Chinese company?

It’s something I’ve read on twitter mate so I can’t 100% verify it but if it’s true and business is taking a stance in shunning Russia then we’ll done.

This could also be a follow on from sanctions already mentioned re tech, semi conductors and chips etc.

Just been reading on Wikipedia about various polls held in Ukraine around 2008.
At that point NATO seems to have been perceived negatively by Ukrainians.

It would be interesting to know how reliable the polls were.

A similar call went out from the Republican government in the Spanish Civil War in their hour of need and many idealistic young people were inspired to join the International Brigade. It was a fine thing they did but it didn't save Spain from Fascism.

The Germans have got themselves between a rock and a hard place by becoming so dependent on Russian gas. They've only got themselves to blame though because they should never have shut down their nuclear power stations after Fukushima. But we are where we are and the rest of the world will need to step up to try and guarantee sufficient supplies to prevent Germany grinding to a halt if they stop Russian gas imports.
Yep. They're in a tricky situation. Nearly 50% of German homes rely on gas for heating. They can't just switch it off. And in fairness to them, they have some admirable plans to move towards being solely reliant on renewable energy sources. Unfortunately, the transition towards this has actually increased their need for fossil fuels.

Not at all, he's saying one option is painful, other options are even more painful.

If you have gangrene in your toe, do you cut it off there and then? Do you wait until it has spread throughout your foot? Or leave it and hope for the best until it kills you?
Cheers Chris.

Option A, except I would hope that someone else would do the actual amputation for me, I'm not Ranulph Fiennes.
