Russian invasion of Ukraine

Had a blazing row with my youngest boy this morning, him talking about his friend and him going to help Ukraine as part of this 'foreign legion'.
He has no military training whatsoever, he's studying law at Uni ffs, what would he do, read to them ????
I'd imagine it's all talk & just young mens bravado, well i hope it is.
Then i think about Ukrainian parents & their children taking up the fight.
Not sure i can stop him if he's determined to go, hopefully he'll calm down
See the International Brigade of the Spanish civil war. Made up of youngsters from all over the place.

Some great news regarding the Chechens you describe.
The Ukrainians have obliterated this special forces column of 56 tanks outside Kiev,
and killed their top general. Apparently the lot were blown to smithereens, and Putin is
ranting and raving about the lack of progress.
They could well be bogged down for years, but the worry now is that Putin will start
using the nasty stuff.

News chanels reports saying the chechens are in Maiupol not Kyiv though.

So were they sent to both cities as their are pictures of their apparent units crossing the border but after that ??

This is what I mean in my earlier post, I see so many conflicting stories and stock photos, I have to say we have no clue what is happening on the ground tbh.

The 13 snake island coast guard officers WIth the audio of them being blown up and dead a few day ago, are being reported as having escaped and safely back on the mainland.

I was just saying the same thing

It’s Germany who is protecting its own arse re swift, no one else.
That's what I meant. We are all told how wonderful it is that we have ALL agreed to stop swift payments, except we haven't. It's another sham. Germany needs gas and need to sell cars, electric goods etc so they have maintained a back door means of payment.

What ever you do, don't argue with him. I don't know the lad but that might make him do a 'I'll show you'. Talk to him and tell him your fears.

Why are “some Russian banks” being taken out of Swift, why not ALL Russian banks? My guess is that the ones that the Germans use for trading with Russia for gas supplies are the ones being left in. The Ukrainians lose their lives, whilst the eu and particularly it’s richest country is more bothered about paying more for its gas bills, disgusting

Probably that and the risk of if they’re kicked out they’ll launch a cyber attack on swift. The Americans won’t want the risk of alternatives being setup/used which threatens dollar hegemony.

As far as I am aware its not the Americans who are limiting the banks it’s applied to, it’s the Germans, and possibly Italy

Bang on. We remove the bank of Moscow from Swift so the germans (luxury cars) just get the them to pay the money into the bank of Stalingrad who aren't sanctioned and they transfer it.
A few posters on here were fuming that the UAE had abstained on a vote, look closer to home to see who is protecting their own economy at the expense of Ukranian lives.
I think its unrealistic to expect Germany to cripple it's own economy to help Ukraine. A very tough choice for sure.
