Russian invasion of Ukraine

A lot of the convoys are running out of fuel it seems, plus their occupants are poorly motivated and in the dark as to what the real mission is. Ukraine is a huge country which means the Russian supply lines are stretched as they try to take ground quickly.

But yes, the anti-tank weapons (Brit NLAW and American Javelin and others) supplied by the west are very effective. Turkey also supplied four TB2 drones which the Russians have no defence against.
Thanks. I will Google TB2 as no idea what they are or do

BTW does anyone know where OPEC and the Saudis are in all of this? They could easily satisfy world oil demands and stabilise prices (with Russian oil embargoed) by simply turning the wick up a bit. I haven't heard a peep out of Saudi Arabia.

Or - unrelated - out of Japan either. What are the Japs saying / doing?

We are not dependent!!!! It's true it was just more convenient and commercial.
There will be some rejigging and price rises but we are not "dependent".
Germany alone gets 55% of its gas from Russia. 44billion cubic meters last year at $1800 per 1000m3. That means they are buying over $200,000,000 of gas a day from Russia. As I understand it there isn't the infrastructure yet to import the required LPG in ships to replace this gas, and there are no pipelines from the middle east. It takes time to build terminals and build infrastructure I don't see how this can be done in a few days, months if not years are much more likely.

They haven't tho have they, politician tells lies is not a surprise.

Provide a reason why not all Russian banks have been excluded from swift other than it being directly linked to allowing trade to continue?

And if you are allowing trade to continue logic dictates that you will still trade the one thing that your country needs?
Fucks sake as I have said many times it’s due to it being too difficult and national self interest, and it’s fucking disgusting. The reality is that ALL russian banks could an should be fucked off out of Swift, that’s what the Ukrainians want and need, but because politicians are greedy and selfish they haven’t done it, yet

Yes but my point is, buying his gas is only half the story. He sells us gas, we give him Euros. But what does he do with them? He can't eat them. They are used to buy western goods and services and if we won't sell any goods or services to him, his Euros are useless.

Think Siemens manufacturing equipment spares - so his factories won't run. BMW spares, so his Oligarchs' cars won't run, etc. It's a long haul for sure though. And I guess he can still use them to buy stuff from China :-(
Buys his stuff off China? The Chinese probably hold the key to bringing this to a quick end. If the western powers can get China on side Putin really is toast.

We've already got teminals and decent infrastructure. The US, Canada and hopefully China can more than supply our needs.

When they are so numerous they are hard to avoid. I think no one on this forum is under any illusion that you don't despise him lol. But it does seem that you have an unhealthy obsession, you must think of nothing else all day?

I think of plenty of things all day - right now I am thinking am I the only one with an ignore option on here? Quite often its the "free speech" advocates who don't like stuff - I presume because people are speaking freely about stuff they don't want to hear?

Main battle tanks (MBT) have practically reached a dead-end in their development.

The Russian T-90 (a development of the T-72) has had some incremental upgrades since it’s introduction 30 years ago. It is Russia’s MBT.

It’s supposed successor, the brand new design T-14 has been in development hell and general production limbo since 2016. Though reasonable production and deployment has started.

the US Abrams has been incrementally production upgraded since its introduction in … 1980. There doesn’t seem to be a brand new replacement on the horizon.

the uk challenger II is from 1998 and some will be upgraded in near future to III specification, the rest used as spares/scrapped.

there’s also the German Leopard 2, the French leclerc , and iirc quite a few other homegrown ones - Japan, India, Brazil …

I think the tank , or at least the MBT, is at the end of its life.

I’m surprised there isn’t a MBT drone from anyone in the works… or a medium tank drone at least. But perhaps there is at some skunkworks.
Bluemoon is great, you learn so much!

Their only friends appear to be in our cabinet

That is clearly not true. ALl western governments are still trading with Russia to some degree or other, Germany is still buying over $210,000,000 of gas a day from Russia.

Your obsession is seriously swaying your viewpoint.

This **** needs getting rid of as well.

Rigged the election to win presidency, allowed Russia to launch an attack from Belarus and has now taken it upon himself to launch missiles at Ukraine.

Sanctions need placing on Belarus until he's gone and the Russian forces are no longer in Belarus.

Belarus has a referendum today and if it is voted in, he will be the president there until 2034.

It all comes at a cost though - this is where politics sometimes fails its people - politicians can fail to do the right thing because in the short term they face elections - probably says a lot about their ability to truthfully and skilfully explain the argument for what they did or do to their electorate?

It boring mate and some of it is blatant lies like your posts about the Russians only friends being the uk gov.

your obsession with thinking I have an obsession is becoming tiresome

Always thought this is the issue with current democratic structure.

Nothing really ever changes because the focus is on winning the next election.

Thats why you get new bulbs in your street lights but no-one fixes the drains - your local councillor gets a photo in the local paper pointing up at a lamp pole illustrating their success - pointing down at the ground is not very photogenic

I wonder if they are misguided in their thinking on this. Seems to me that there is almost universal support for whatever measures need to be taken. People recognise that higher fuel costs and maybe some other hardships are a very very small price to pay in order to maintain peace in Europe. What is the alternative? Allowing Russia to take Poland, Sweden and any other non-Nato countries he fancies? Or how about all out war?

If we need to have a few power cuts or whatever, this is IMO well worth it. And as I have said before, if the government can find hundreds of billions to protect us from the effects of COVID, then surely it can find a few billion to subsidize energy bills for a short period.
