Russian invasion of Ukraine

This is an insane decision. Trading short term (ie 3 weeks) of pretending things are OK for permanent exclusion from the international aviation business.

Insane decisions and Russia go hand-in-hand at the moment.

These planes need specific servicing and maintenance too, these companies have already said they won't show Russia how to do it or give them the manuals. No parts to replace the old parts.

So they'll essentially be death traps 40,000 feet in the air before too long.

Who the fuck is going to get on one of them...unless they don't tell their own people (they probably wont).

Exactly. They are never going to be lent planes again because of this decision which will only let them keep flying for about a fortnight.

I think the sanctions are biting so hard they’re entirely focused on surviving for the next few days. Keep the planes flying and the People and cargo moving around the country because when that stops they’re fucked and you can’t hide it.

I think they literally believe they can decimate Ukraine, announce a takeover, and be welcomed back into the fold within a couple of weeks.

Hopefully they're wrong.

I think I read that Lots of their planes have been seized now internationally in retaliation.

Says in the article they’re going to get them serviced in the Middle East.

If my neighbour piled a load of manure next to my back fence, which incidentally he did once, I would call that an uncomfortable threat and deal with it appropriately. If I was unhinged and paranoid I might get a gun out. Just a thought, I am not on the Right or in any way an apologist. This is a delicate situation which needs clear thinking diplomacy he is now a monster.
Worst metaphor ever.

Any Russian who does not publicly speak out against what is happening deserves complete contempt - I want the sanctions to turn their country into a 3rd world country so that the people can see where Putin has led them. Abandoned armour in Ukraine left as soldiers trudge home because of breakdowns and no spares - airliners that can't fly because there is no support for them - queues outside shops that have next to fuck all in them and what they have in there costs a zillion roubles to buy - no well paid jobs because all the western corporations have gone home - cars that don't work because a breakdown can't be fixed with no spares - Oligarch's sent packing their private jets confiscated and their luxury yachts scuttled and when its on its belly then we really twist the screw - they have to understand that scenes like this Dad crying do not belong in 21st Century Europe

If you translate the link and read it, they have already claimed they have agreements to buy to parts for maintaining them from countries not imposing sanctions who will buy direct from boeing and Airbus for them, who cannot and will not won't block third party sales.

It also states they are basically knicking a domestic fleet from europe claiming as russian planes are banned they cannot fly them back.

These misleading small victory stories detract from proper reporting that needs telling.

The Ukraine didn’t metaphorically pile up manure, it merely existed as an internationally-viewed free and sovereign state. And even if, and it’s not even an if as it didn’t happen, your neighbour did somewhat annoy you, would you respond by throwing actual explosives in his house to kill his family?

I think we are watching the end of Russia as we know it.

I don’t see how this ends without Putin gone, and I don’t see him going before the economy is obliterated.

In a couple of weeks the weather will be warmer and the EU will stop buying gas, the SWIFT sanction loopholes will close.

Moving forward the EU and Germany will uncouple itself from Russian oil and gas, and when that happens what is Russia?

It’s army is dysfunctional, mutinous and embarrassingly equipped. The only success they have had is firing on civilians.

He’s created such unity and cooperation, not to mention alarm that Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey etc will be accepted into the EU and Finland, Sweden and Ukraine will join NATO.

A lot will depend on who replaces Putin but Russia will either fade into irrelevance or it will, like Ukraine, like the rest of the former USSR, move towards the EU.

Again I'm not saying I know everything, but if you simply use the argument "they already have Nato on their boarder so there is no difference" its quite obvious you basically have no idea what you talking about and should educate yourself a bit more before getting into further discussions on the subject. If you fail to realize Russia is concerned about Nato expanding to the east and Ukraine becoming a part of Nato, regardless if you think the concerns are valid or not, you must simply have been living under a rock the last 14 years and/or had zero knowledge about the Ukraine situation before Russia invaded them a couple of days ago.

There is also a big difference in importance about how much more vulnerable Russia are along its border to Ukraine, than what they are along the boarder they share with Norway, the Baltics or even USA. Its barely even people living along their border with Norway, its so far up North. Same can be said about their border with Alaska. The Baltics basically have a population of a small Russian city so its nothing they need to be super worried about, from a Russian point of view. But it was quite obvious they were unwilling to let Nato expand to these countries as well at the time, even if they didnt use military force to prevent it. I think this has mainly to do with that Russia didnt have the financial muscles to go to war back then as they have today, but thats just my guess.

Like I said ,I dont think Russia has any right to invade Ukraine regardless if they are concerned about Nato or not. I just find it hard to understand why anyone would think that the reason Russia chooses to invade Ukraine, has anything to do with something else than Ukraines potential Nato expansion.
I’m sorry but you’re just partying Putin talking points that have been answered and shown to be complete shite two dozen times in this thread over the past month. It’s fuck all to do with NATO and everything to do with Putin’s (previously stated) aims of a re-imagined Russian Empire based on the 1917 borders. As for me needing to “educate myself a bit more”, I’m roughly quoting every respected Russia expert and specifically quoting Michael McFaul, the former US Ambassador to Russia, so maybe the physician should take his own medicine.

If it was about nato then why isn’t Putin saying that’s the reason to his people? Why’s he making up shite about genocide against ethically Russian civilians in Ukraine?

He’s single-handedly made the West it’s most unified that I can ever remember.

I’ve not even made a single joke about the French for 2 weeks, which is a record.
