Russian invasion of Ukraine

That’s not the same thing. Captives given food and water and mamas in Siberia given information about their captured or killed status.

Whilst their own side has crematoria vans for its fallen.
The Ukraine people have been phoning up dead Russian soldiers mums?
I appreciate your wanting to see the good in people but it wouldn't surprise me if that Russian soldier seen in the video hasn't been stood up against a wall, people don't take kindly to having their family, home and city's blown to bits, war is brutal on both sides

If you look back over history there are very few times when there wasn't some major war or another going on. It has always been about one country throwing its weight around and others making alliances and encouraging rebellions and conflict to stop that country becoming too powerful. Not only that but powerful countries have always found excuses, no matter how ridiculous, to justify doing what they want and starting wars.

Over the long-term it seems to be that decades of relative peace are actually not normal, and the more normal state of affairs is conflict and war.

Have we got too used to the idea of peace (in Europe) and therefore become incapable of imagining that not everyone is reasonable and decent and appreciates or enjoys peace?

We used to be very concerned about our supply of food, energy, wood, steel-making, ship-building and other key resources as issues of national security, but that seems to have gone out of the window and now we are happy to depend on others for the basics of our survival and our economy.

For example, the Greens and Eco-conscious folks never once made the case that we should invest in renewable energy as a key part of our national Security strategy, which (with hindsight) might have been a more persuasive argument than 'doing the right thing'. The government basically said Green Energy was too expensive and didn't want to subsidise it, but how much will they now spend to subsidise carbon based energy? Likely more than it would have cost to establish a largely renewable based energy sector.

The other thing that struck me is that as time has gone on the people who have to do the fighting are further and further from the people who have the power to start or end war. In medieval times Kings would go into battle with their knights and it was quite common for them to get killed. Later on, poor folks would be forced to join militias, which could then be sent off to war. Now we have professional armies, and they are completely expendable to killers and psychopaths like Putin.

If Russian losses begin to mount up will that alone be enough for Putin to reconsider this war? Say they lose 50,000 men that’s some sacrifice. Maybe more even. Anyone think there will be a tipping point in terms of Russian casualties?

Not too hard a job though here. People are understandably not overly keen on Russia

Not for Putin. The population if they get the facts then yes

900k reserves all expendable in his eyes to complete the special operation.

Cant see why, he'll save face by blaming it on the evil, anti Russian, capitalist west
