I think the forgotten man and arguably our greatest player deserves a thread of his own.
My grandad was a red, born in the 1920s saw all their top players said Peter Doherty was the best player he ever saw.

I can't remember to be on honest I think just in terms of Manchester, he was off the generation where you would watch City one week and United the next.Did your grandad rate him higher than Pele, puskas, de stefano, cryuff, Maradona etc.
In otherwards did he think doherty was the greatest player of all time.
Bit before my time , but my old elderly neighbours when I was a kid (took me to Wembley in 81 too) always said that, he must have been some player given they’d seen The King too, and they didn’t praise players lightly.
RIP George and Amy, two finer blues you couldn’t wish to meet !
Honestly couldn’t answer that mate, but given fans of a certain generation say Colin Bell, they witnessed both, and said Doherty, as an aside, they also rated Alan Oakes very very highly too.Did your neighbours think he was the best player they ever saw.
My father is the same, he is now 91 and always talks about Doherty being the best ever.
Same as a lot of others on here, grandad started watching city in a about 1907 & dad started going with him in the late 30s early 40s & they both said Peter Doherty was the best player they ever saw, Colin Bell was a very close second though.
To be honest I dont think Best was ever in the same conversation as Doherty, great player but Best got a lot more attention because of who he played for & weirdly enough I dont think he ever played that well against city?Did they think doherty was better than best or finney.
