I've always thought/hoped that if these unprecedented sanctions bite hard on the 'elite' and with the general public, that they might be enough to force a regime change. In reading stuff today, I perceive a chink of light. From UK Chief of staff to a Russian Intelligence whistle blower, and many in between, there is strong agreement that the invasion can never succeed: country is too vast, resistance is strong, Russian supply lines hopeless, economy is tanking etc etc.
The danger is Putin will lash out by using chemical weapons, death squads etc. But the feeling is that, in the end, Russia will 'lose'. As the failures mount up, Putin's position will become increasingly fragile.
Not a lot of comfort for Ukrainians in the short term, but there is hope.
Absolutely disgusting using kids like this.'One image that has been circulating online since Sunday showed terminally ill children from a hospice in the southern city of Kazan forming a Z to support the invasion of Ukraine.'
Just how low will these bastards sink when they're prepared to use dying kids as part of a black propaganda campaign?
We never voted for closing the door to refugees. I don’t remember ever seeing that in any manifesto.Ireland have taken in 500 last time I checked. Like the rest of Europe they have waived visa requirements.
We do not want Ukrainian refugees (or any refugees) here. Which is why we are stalling and lying.
It’s what we voted for, and the Govt is delivering.
Well - perhaps I reflect the 'weak majority' - but no matter how much I despise what Putin/Russia are doing - I want the west to avoid any risk of triggering a WW3We don't know for sure it would lead to WW3 but it provides weaker countries an excuse to not to challenge Putin
Just substitute aubergines with potatoes in your moussaka mate, sorted. Can't buy aubergines this summer

They will all probably be higher than the UK.Those are all countries in close proximity, just wondered if you have accurate figures you'd like to share for.....
Finland
Norway
Sweden
Denmark
Holland
Belgium
Spain
Portugal
Italy
Austria
...........or is it just the UK for some reason?
Can someone who understands these issues please explain something that's been bugging me please? Since the main drivers of inflation for ordinary people are fuel and food costs and Russia is self sufficient in oil and gas and most essential food stuffs, then why are Russian adults going to suffer serious hardship? I assume the low rouble makes luxury western goods more expensive but they can presumably cope quite comfortably without these for the foreseeable?Only thing is Western sanctions will end up hurting the West too. Russian adults are used to hardship, shortages and sacrifice. Westerners have meltdowns if they can't get everything delivered immediately.

We voted for controlled Immigration similar to the Australian system. We have a proud history in this country for taking in refugees and that should continue.
Like most I want this country to take in ukranians, syrian refugees etc, anyone fleeing from war.

They import about 40% of their consumed food which has effectively doubled in a month and will get worse. The average Ruskie on the street won’t stave as Russia has a fuck load of wheat and bean products but they will be changing diets to bread soya beans and making up for less meat & stuff with more vodka. Then obviously factor in millions of them losing jobs as companies pull out go bust with dependency on financial sector. Can someone who understands these issues please explain something that's been bugging me please? Plus the cost of borrowing money has risen sharply.Russia imports 15% of it's food.
So imagine supply goes down 15% and demand stays the same, what happens?
That was the most basic of basic explanations, I'm not qualified to go deep into the economics so I'll leave it to those better informed before making an arse of myself.Plus the cost of borrowing money has risen sharply.

And our kids need a passport to go on school trips to France or Ireland etc. plenty to call the gov twunts for but that one is a bit exaggerated.Mate, we won’t let in nippers from Europe on school trips unless they all have passports, so the idea we will be welcoming refugees from Ukraine is a fucking fantasy.
The Govt is doing what it elected to do. Make life as difficult as possible for people to come here.
