Crystal Palace (A) | Post Match Thread

Grealish wasn't the worst player on the pitch tonight, but he has been consistently shite all season. What a waste of money. I know some of you will say give him time, but how long? It's not as though he's come from abroad, he's an experienced PL player and is used to the pace of the PL. He needs to stop posing and literally pull his socks up!
Genuine Q: Would you be saying this if Bernardo and KDB scored the chances he put on a plate for them?

You know what, I’ve had a lousy 4 days health wise (don’t get me wrong better off than some others) but I am not down about a flipping draw for goodness sake. We WILL still win this title. So man up you moaners, or person up!!
WE ARE CITY, THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND IN ALL THE WORLD . OK???

Why don’t Liverpool face the same thing? It’s like teams only set up to stop us but try to play against them, leaving themselves open to conceding.
Difference is that they have 3 top class strikers and strength on the bench and play to those strengths ie boot the ball up the pitch and bypass midfield so theu get space. Where we pass it sideways and backwards giving teams plenty of time to get players back.

Plus both their full backs are pretty deadly with their crossing where Walker only hits the 1st defender and Cancelo either gives it away cheaply or over hits every cross

We'll be fine in April and May, have said it for ages now. We weren't poor, hit the post twice, Mahrez and Bernardo had great chances. Normally, we win that game 2:0 or 3:1. It wasn't a good performance either, we were either a bit slow on the ball or a bit impatient, didn't find the right rhythm for most of the game.

I was warning in January that the title was far from being done. Many fans don't understand the probabalistic (or fickle) nature of football, or don't want to understand it because prefer illusion to reality. And reality is that 8 pts are not such a big lead with 15 games to go. Teams lose form, get unlucky in some games, suffer from mistakes in other, and things change.

I'm optimistic, though. Think we'll win the title, because, unlike last season, we'll be in top form in April and May. Nothing is guaranteed, time will tell.

Delap would of been a better option tonight in fodens role. Foden just out muscled everytime v palace. Put him out wide running into the box,

Foden in this position v palace is wrong

Firstly we should have won the game had we taken our chances. Bernardo will never miss those again. Mahrez lacked his usual composure and for me was the one who should have been taken off. Phil also had a bit of a rare off night.

But come on now those thinking Liverpool have a big advantage are a bit deluded. If they end up winning 18 games on the trot (current run plus remaining fixtures) frankly they will win it and maybe deserve to but I guarantee they won't. Arsenal for example are in great form and they still have a few tough games left. I have watched them a few times on their recent winning run and they are due a loss or two.

Only real complaint from me tonight was we were very slow bringing the ball out and against a team so defensively set up you need to play faster and some of our late game passing was off a bit - we shall be fine and I still am convinced we win the title.
The tone was set by Laporte and Stones with their hesitant jerky distribution in the 1st 10 mins

A point is a point, and will/should wake us up.

But i've just got one gripe tonight that needs addressing......can someone please twat Ratboy?
I dunno, the point at Southampton, then the loss against Spurs at home doesn’t seem to have done too much bar last weekend…

I think we need to hope they have their own wobble as I wouldn’t count on us winning out from here.

We knew that in the summer and decided to spend £100 million of Jack Grealish rather than sign a striker.

We’ve no one to blame than ourselves for that.

It’s not like the writing wasn’t on the wall either. The fact Gundogan was our top scorer is pathetic with the forward players in this side.
Were currently a team that relies on a 15-20 goal scorer coming from midfield and were struggling with that right now

I base it on us having the best record in the league. On being champions 3 times in 4 years. We’re off top form at the moment but we almost always come good during the run in during these close title races. We just have to get through the Liverpool game being in first place. If we do that, then I have no doubt we’ll win it.
Well said.

Pace was exactly what was required. We have no pace to counter it’s way too slow. The lack of pace is hurting us. Need to address it in the summer.
I actually don’t think Pep wants us to play with pace… He mentioned something a couple of weeks ago that the quicker you play, the quicker the other team get the ball and counter. Which is absolutely what palace would have done and probably scored.

Yeah, I thought he did ok, tracked back when he lost the ball, worked hard & after Kev looked the most likely, strange we stopped going down his side for long periods in the second half
Agree. But that left channel looked congested tonight, whereas the space on the right meant Walker had the chances to cross and he isn’t the player we want crossing the ball and I couldn’t work out which player was going to make the run to get on to crosses from the right - seemed messy.

Just wish they shoot outside the box more when it is congested - de bruyne and cancelo shots both close, both created further chances.
