Running thread

Thanks mate.

Yeah, I had my gait tracked a few years ago and tried loads of pairs on in a running shop (in Norwich as it happens...).

The Brooks Ghost's stood out a mile in terms of fit/comfort and I've loved them.

Should really cut out all the faff and go order another pair, but I'm a sucker for change.
The Cliftons 7/8 seem to be a likewise pair and worth a shot.

I know the advice is to shop around for the previous models but I can't for the life me find them in my size (10/10.5).

Like the Nikes mind - pricy? I'll take a look.

I invested in some Saucony Endorphin's a couple of weeks ago and they're a great all round shoe if you do most of your running on roads/pavements. Switch between them and some Asics Gel Cumulus which are a lovely slow long run shoe - plenty of cushioning etc. The Saucony's are quick - make running quicker a must - it's hard to slow the pace down in them.

Quick is obviously in context so it isn't rapid! I have heard good things about so many shoes to be honest, it's tough to know which to go with. Worth just taking the plunge and seeing how you get on.

The run repeat website is pretty good - you can compare all sorts of options and see full reviews from experts and users plus put them in a table to compare pros and cons with other shoes too. If you put your Brooks shoes in there and then find a few other options you might get an idea of suitable alternatives.

Thanks for this.

I'll take a look - be good to get something that could make me faster over the 5k (as I still have that sub 20 min pipe dream...).
Hear good things about the Saucony's too - are the Endorphin's fairly neutral?

I'll view that run repeat site too.

I would just be careful mate and go for a few easy runs when your able and keep an eye on your heart rate, after I had it my HR was about 20/30 over what it usually is(that could have been due to the fact I sat in a room drinking 8 cans a night for two weeks).
Ive seen a few folk say its affected their running, but have seen loads more say it had no effect whatsoever, so hopefully you will be in the second group.
My advice would be the few easy runs and see how you feel
Just been out for my first run after testing negative yesterday.
Really surprised that my HR was within 10 of where it would be normally on an easy run! So grateful for that. My back was like someone had put two steel rods in it though!
Thanks again - fingers crossed I can put a few easy runs together and look to get one hard effort in. The 1:30 is/was a massive goal but we'll see.

Sounds promising, your heartrate is bound to be up a bit after having a lay off, covid or no covid. If your anything like me, you are probably itching to get back at it now, but I think the sensible thing would just be to take it easy, even if it means missing out on the half, there will be plenty more halfs and your health has to come first, boring advice I know, but better to be safe than sorry

Will do mate, let me know what yer race number is when you get it and I will try and spot you.
Have you done this course before? Is it hilly?

No mate pretty flat. First half slight decline and then the next half slight incline, but nothing of any note. Very runnable at a decent pace.

There are quicker shoes for a 5k PB defo if you are after that sub 20 as your main goal. As an all round shoe for someone who runs some 5ks some longer runs and mixes pace I think they're a pretty good shoe.

Gaz owns most shoes out there though so has a better idea overall.

I did Portobello Parkrun in Edinburgh three weeks ago, in 29:59, then got Covid that afternoon, at a family gathering.

Then eight days without running, and gradually working my way back, before Warrington Parkrun yesterday, in 29:59. It's fairly safe to say that Covid hasn't affected me too badly.

There is one snag though. I had routine blood tests two weeks ago, and the doctor texted me to let me know my iron levels are low. That means the anaemia that I had last year has returned. (It was fixed following a course of iron tablets).

The noticeable effect is shortness of breath, and fatigue, because sufficient oxygen is not getting to my muscles. This makes running much harder. I'll probably need iron supplements for the rest of my life, but at least I will enjoy my running a lot more. Thankfully, prescriptions are free at my age!

There was a 20% discount for Run North West yesterday & my current brooks (I’ve had these over 3 years) have a huge hole in the toe/front.
So a bit of a requirement to renew I ordered the Hoka Clifton 8 which are quite close to the Brooks (according to reviews).

Didn’t want to end up in a rabbit hole of finding the perfect pair….& I do love the look of them (many at my club swear by them).

Hi all
25 miles today at 3.50
Ran from sale to the etihad and then ran to Altrincham
A great run tainted by a cyclist nearly knocking me over in Timperley which really shook me up..
Anyway that's the last big run before Manchester on 3rd April.
Hope everyone's training is going well.

Not ran for 2 weeks. Turned 60 so been away twice for couple short breaks. Got my city in community stuff yesterday so heading out again tomorrow. Also got 2 new pairs of shorts and new running socks in Brighton on one if the breaks. My next training run meant to be 8 miles (equals my longest ever distance). Going to have few shorter ones first before doing that at weekend. Some great efforts recently lads

Wilmslow half today, Big PB, feels great when all the training starts paying off, little over 2 years ago my half PB was 1.53, although I was 3 stone heavier and smoking 30 a day!!! Keep at the training folks, hard work pays
Blimey, that's quite some transformation. Completely different background to mine and slightly better results. Amazing.

Another great time. Double it and add 10 minutes......??

I've clicked the Query This Result button at the top mate. Just letting you know. Your cancellation will come via email.

Best wishes.

Have you tried spatone? Pour it in some fresh orange and off you go. My other half had low iron when pregnant and was advised to take that and her iron levels picked up really well.
