Bring the Noise

Definitely. There is little difference these days with the improvement in TVs, coverage, streaming etcetera to being at the game. In fact with the prices, cost and hassle of travel and sanitisation in the grounds, rules etcetera for many it is more trouble than it's worth. Clubs, especially ours, have to ask why when we are in the most successful period in our history and are playing some great football in the process, we still don't sell out. I know people will jump on this but we don't, watch the footage tonight, there will be plenty of empty seats, mine being one of them. I've had my seat up for sale but had an email 30 minutes ago saying it hasn't sold. These are the hard unpalatable facts and the club should be asking why.

The club, council, transport companies etc go out of their way to make going to the match as much of a rip off pain in the arse and treat fans as badly as is possible. It’s insane.

I’ve said this before but I’ve worked in the music and events industry for a long time. If I treated fans and gig goers the way football fans are treated I’d be front page news and sacked / out of business in about a week.

The simple act of stopping the Altrincham tram going directly to the ground was the stupidest decision ever. It is always rammed and goes through loads of big blue areas. It makes no sense whatsoever except to piss thousands of blues off.

Getting older is a factor although I know we have some very committed older Blues. What was fun at 25 isn't at 65. Due to being away and some health issues the Liverpool game was my first live game for some time. It was a great game and it was nice catching up with the regulars near me again but I can't say actually being there was anymore enjoyable than watching it on the telly. Sad I know but it's true.
we aint getting any younger mate.
That scouse game was the only one i tried getting a ticket for so far this season.

All the trams are always late, shite, generally fucked in every measurable way. For years I’ve paid for the “tram season ticket”. I’ve sacked it off this year and just walk.

God only knows what European away fans think of our transport infrastructure. Compared to almost every other European city we’re third world.

The Liverpool game there was no buses going into Piccadilly after the game so I walked. No way will I wait in a huge queue to be rammed like a sardine in a tram.

Yeah I've decided today after 39 years been a season ticket holder I'm not going to renew next season..to be honest I just can't be bothered any more just not as interested as I used to be.
Various reason.
Var.
The cost.
The match day experience or lack of it.
Football in general.
Playing behind closed doors through lockdown showed me two things.
1 football doesn't need supporters anymore or care about them.
And 2 I have better things to do

Exactly.

And because it’s a football match it’s accepted.

Imagine if this were a big conference event, or an arena concert, or even a rugby match. It wouldn’t be tolerated.

Football fans - which are also normal everyday people with identities outside of being a “football fan” are treated like shit.

It’s offensive and unacceptable. I see it first hand with how Showsec treat people at the game. A company I know very closely through my work and who wouldn’t dream of treating gig goers the way they do football fans.

Anyway I’ve derailed this topic a bit..

I've hung on because next season I get the cheaper season ticket and at long last, no thanks to dickhead Burnham, I can get fairly free travel for £10 a year. My dual fuel bill has just risen by £43 a month, almost double. I'll give it another season and see how it goes.

I felt, from the MOTD coverage, that the fans brought the noise last night. Am I right or just selective hearing? ;-)

You know me and my glass half full. (Actually it’s 3/4 full at present) :-)
I thought the atmosphere was good last night - much better than I expected it to be

Pep even acknowledged the crowd in the post match press conference
