Russian invasion of Ukraine

If they spent loads on Military aid for Ukraine I wouldn't mind. But they don't and won't.
Mental note: Dont buy any German stuff.
I was reading some opinions on Germany and one thing that kept coming up that Germany maybe doing a lot more covertly than publicly as Germany sending lots in falls into the “Nazi” propaganda trap.

Nonsense.
The F35 is not designed for air to air combat and is reliant on loads of ancillary support.
They would not last a week.
Take it your not Billie Flynn nor a believer in his opinion of how well they would perform over Ukraine and contested skies. Admittedly he’s probably bias with his Lockheed connections but certainly an sme.

And nothing really mate.

But it makes a big statement when the biggest economy and most influential country within in the EU to all intents and purposes sides with Russia, offering no weaponry help to those brave people in the Ukraine, and continuing to fund that absolute bastard Putin with his "special military project" which involves absolute mass murder.

Boris may well be a **** but speaking as a Brit in Australia I'm proud of the way the British have responded with all the help they have given.

Nothing to do with the EU though is it?

It makes absolutely no statement about the EU. It makes a big statement about Germany behaving like cunts. Countries like Poland and Slovakia have been amongst Ukraine’s biggest supporters. Guess what - they’re also in the EU. That makes no statement about the EU either because because key foreign policy decisions have always been decided at national level. All this demonstrates is that the Brexiteers got it wrong with their bullshit about the EU controlling us. If you want to have a pop at the EU try the politics forum - they really have little to do with the Ukraine response other than trying, and in Germany’s case failing, to encourage member states to do as much as possible.

It’s a regional trading bloc first and foremost.

Foreign policy remains a competency of individual member states.

It is and it isn’t, and herein lays one of its problems that has been exposed by the conflict. I have a lot of sympathy and respect for the EU on Ukraine, they tried to lead the way very early on but have been somewhat frustrated in that and let down to an extent by some of their member states.

The EU strike me as a bit confused about their role - member states seemingly delegated decision making, for example by the advent of an EU foreign minister and foreign policy, to the EU but in actual fact it was little more than an honorary role when real leadership and decision making was attempted by the EU. The EU aren’t to blame for this and to my mind this crisis has thrown off the shackles of bureaucrats and shown them to be strong leaders albeit a bit toothless.

The EU probably need to redefine certain aspects of statehood and reset the boundaries of their power - I’ve long held the notion that they should either go all out and become a United States of Europe with all that entails, a standing army, law and order, health, welfare and the such or row back to being a pure trading bloc. This current half way house really doesn’t satisfy anyone or anything in the long term.

It’s a bit strange how Ukraine are simultaneously fighting to the death for their own sovereignty and pleading desperately to be fast tracked to join the EU, isn’t it? Someone like Nigel Farage or Bill from Bluemoon should tell them about how being in the EU actually removes all their control and Independence.

Good job the ISIS brain washers didn’t get to them first!
