Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

One for the 1894 group. The day a drum or megaphone (or even worse, both) is introduced, don't be surprised when ST holders in the ground stop attending.

The wankers at Leicester with their clackers, or the European clubs with their contrived chanting can fuck right off.

Crowd reaction is based on what is happening on the pitch, not by some twat with a megaphone or a c#nt with a drum.

1894 doesn't currently have any plans for a drum or a megaphone...

If more people sang no one would mention a drum ever again. So either these 'fans' start singing or stop complaining when other fans try to improve things.

Some fans are stuck in their ways, though. If you want to make an omelette, you have to crack a few eggs.

I get your and others' point about crowd noise that is orchestrated as it becomes divorced from what is happening in front of you and so can feel 'fake' or jarring some how, but your point that reaction is based on what's going on the pitch - do you mean there should be no proactive chanting at all?

But you can't blame them for sometimes trying something different when our home support is mostly no existent. Hopefully that's not the case tonight

I’ve just had an “et tu Bruté“ moment

Cheesy on this week’s podcast puts the knife into City fans for the lack of atmosphere

I think Wembley shocked a lot of us to the core. On the Tube, in the pub, in the streets and then in the stadium...nothing. Surrounded by scousers making a racket. That used to be us.

There’s at least 3 different signing groups in SSL1.

1894 at the back of 115.
Another group at the back of 114.
Another group located in 116. Not 100% sure of their exact location.
It would be great if those 3 groups came together.
But would they move from their current locations and seats?
And would the club be able to find a place for them in SSL1 near the middle or top?
I doubt it.
There have been games when all 3 groups are starting different songs or singing different songs. Drowning each other out. Or forcing chants to die out that have started.
TBH it’s a bit annoying and frustrating.

I don’t think we need a drum, but I always find it funny hearing angry reactions like this - ie stop attending or I’ll smash it over someone’s head’. Chances are you won’t do anything.

what we have now ‘based on what’s happening on the pitch’ isn’t exactly working.

Get a drum and if it free tickets I would still say no

yes true, it is a funny reaction. The split of fans for or against a drum is 50 / 50, it wont happen as to start upsetting more fans would mean we end up with 15 singing and empty seats. average game to be honest !

I think if we did a survey across the whole stadium and got the top 5 changes needed for a better atmosphere, they then got put in place, do we think it would make a difference ? Very little i'd say, there would probably be a new list come out for changes ! None of us like the prices for tickets, but no matter what you pay doesnt stop us singing. Maybe cheaper tickets would get more enthusiastic fans in but we have enough in at the moment to make a better noise.

Why do we have to put things in place to support our team vocally, If the Germans had our type of stadium and restrictions would the atmosphere be rubbish ? Why would we walk out if a drum came in when at Leicester the atmosphere was good when we banged on metal plates with our hands ? I think this highlights the issue we have.

I have no doubt tonight will be loud, fans psyched up for this one. Crowd phycology as mentioned in a previous post is true, cant see there being issues tonight.

The reaction on the pitch is a cheer, boo, whistle, clap and shouting to encourage players.. Chanting is different thing, it is difficult to do this in reaction to the game although if Clattenburg is an arsehole that carries well !

I just don’t understand the drum beef really. Literally everywhere we go we find anything that rattles and bang the fuck out of it! whether its juming up and down on seats, smacking the metal backs at Leicester or making a racket on spur’s rattly concourse

Always mass hysteria at the mere mention of a drum usually by the ones that often consider themselves too cool to join in songs, they make more noise complaining about a drum than they do supporting the team.

I'm not advocating a drum, mainly because it takes somebody actually capable of playing it properly, and knowing when to play it and when to leave it, not just some pissed up guy smashing it as hard as possible, a good use of a drum is when it doesn't lead songs it just keeps everybody in sync. In that regard, our fans would benefit immeasurably from a drum, we are one of the most tone deaf set of fans out there incapable of singing in sync and find it impossible to sing a song at anything other than twice the speed it's supposed to be sung at.

You wouldn't though would you?

Couldn’t agree more, the monchengladbach game has left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth because it was as you mentioned just smashing it. I feel we would benefit in getting 114,115 and 116 singing the same songs at the same time because at times it’s painful. I don’t see why we don’t trial it again with a proper drummer, if it’s for a fear of looking stupid on socials what difference does it make as most times we already do!

Not at all, love a bit of chanting. We seem to beat ourselves up over atmosphere, yet a terrible foul committed on one of our players instantly gets the crowd vocal and on their feet.

Same with a quality goal, or coming back from behind

We are plenty noisy enough when it counts, dippers, rags, Cl quarter against Spurs and hopefully tonight.

Pasting Watford just won't raise the temp in the stadium, it happens at all levels of football. When it really matters, we respond.
